Hi, I'm looking for help from any Tesla owners in South Carolina. I recently purchased an inventory Model X 100D from Tesla in Decatur, GA. I have temporary Georgia license plate good through 9/22/2017. I know about and have the forms for paying property tax at my county office and the SC DMV title application Form 400.

My delivery specialist said that Tesla would send me the other document(s) that I'll need to submit with my SC title application, but I haven't received anything yet. It's been a little over 2 weeks since I picked up the car. I'm trying to follow up, but they haven't been very responsive and I see that others have noted similar issues.

My question for anybody in SC is what document(s) did you get from Tesla, how did you receive them (mail, FedEx) and how long did it take to get them? I saw a post from the Texas forum that they received a FedEx package containing
MCO (Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin) and Bill of Sale - is that what I should expect?

I love my car so far, but will rest a bit easier when I get the documentation sorted. Thanks in advance for any information.

I received the MCO about three weeks (via Fedex) after I picked mine up at the Charlotte, NC sales center. After that I took the Form 400 to my county tax office and paid the property taxes (ouch), then paid for the registration, and then picked up the tag. The entire process took about an hour and a half at the Greenville tax office.

Thanks, did you get anything other than the MCO, or is that it?

Sorry, forgot to ask, does the FedEx with the MCO come from Tesla in California? My delivery specialist seemed to be saying it doesn't come from him, but from somebody at Tesla corporate offices.

I think it came with a Form 400 that was already filled out. There may have been a cover sheet also.

I want to say that it did come from California, but I cannot remember off the top of my head.

I live in Beaufort County and their web site gives you a pretty accurate estimate of the motor vehicle property tax if you fill in purchase price and local tax district. Your county may have something similar and the millage rates can vary quite a bit so make sure you are applying the one for where you live. When I paid the tax, they looked up a value for the car on some web site they use, but it was pretty close to the actual price I paid for the car. I think in future years they use some type of depreciated value to determine the assessment, then apply your taxing district's millage rate to calculate the tax owed.

Berkeley County tax estimator is around $2000 for $100,000 car.

Sadly, I just got the tax bill and tag renewal notice on my 2014 S. The $120 EV tax is definitely built into the tag renewal now...

That’s almost as much as my real estate taxes!

SC property tax is outrageous, but on the other hand, sales tax maxes out at $300.

On the other other hand, property tax comes back around every year. :(

I believe sc just upped the sales tax to $500. Still pretty good though.

Yep. In fact, technically, looks like they "replaced" sales tax with a 5% "infrastructure tax" that is capped at $500. Potato potato.
