One of the landing attempts had a dynamic video playback that allowed you to control your viewing angle... I assume this was multiple camera angles stitched together for the stream...
Wow, that video is pretty good. That was shot with a serious video camera, on a tripod. It was easy to see MECO and the 1st stage boostback burn. I think the video stopped before the re-entry burn. What fantastic weather for a launch!
After watching the SpaceX launch webcast for the umpteenth time, a couple of things I noticed: At T+ 6:37 John misidentifies the 1st stage burn as being the boostback burn when in fact it is the re-entry burn (a few seconds earlier he correctly states that the re-entry burn is "coming up"). I guess he got excited. At T+ 2:30 there is a very brief shot of the interior of the rocket but I don't know what it is showing. I'm sure someone here knows. Here is a screen capture:
This I believe is the shot from a camera positioned on the very top of the booster (first stage) looking up into the nozzle of the 2nd stage, capturing separation. The nozzle of the 2nd stage sits on top of the fist stage.
Yes, and thing at the middle is a center pusher. From F9 User Guide: "For added reliability, a redundant center pusher attached to the first stage is designed to dramatically decrease the probability of re-contact between the stages following separation." You can see whole stage separation in Technical Webcast: (22:11)
Amazing how close I could get to it. I think they have security turning people around that don't have business here but between driving a tesla and wearing a lanyard with my work badge (looking official), I got through. The guy asked "space-x?", when I pulled up and I said "yup!", piece of cake. Probably a bunch of photos will show up but if not I took some with my SLR that I can upload later. I'm still at the port.
While I understand the difficulties and risks in having a chase plane, I don't get what the issue is around having a SpaceX authorized ship a mile away.
Sad, ecarfan, that you have watched this so many times. Me too .. a number of those times I've forced others to watch with me. Because I'm their boss they have to pretend to enjoy....
Me three. I just bowl my co-workers and random people over with my enthusiasm. So far, everyone is impressed with the launch and landing.
Same here. I have played it so many times now and i have shared the link to many folks and most of them don't care. But I don't care. For someone who can't understand or care to know how big this is, it is their loss and not mine. They will thank me later, when they wise up.
No legs... Instagram photo by Eileen Y. • Jan 18, 2017 at 7:29pm UTC And a heavenly sight (for us, SpX flavored Kool-Aid drinkers ;P )
You must be in heaven with all the planned launches coming up. I really want to see this multiple launches/month cadence start happening, and look back in a few months where it's just expected and normal. I wonder what SpaceX's market share will become?
I am wondering what would it be, to be sitting and experiencing it in person from the edge of that platform ?
Very loud, very windy, very hot. You would likely lose some hearing and some skin before getting blown overboard.
