Astronauts may soon ride on US rockets and in US spaceships for the first time since the last Space Shuttle flight. Jon Cowart of NASA is working with SpaceX toward the first launch of a Dragon spacecraft with humans on board.

A couple points of interest that I learned from this interview. NASA has already assigned several of their astronauts to work with SpaceX. One of their tasks is study how human factors can improve the development of the manned Dragon capsule. Also, judging from Cowart's discussion of space suits, SpaceX has them ready to go. The final reveal is pretty much at SpaceX's discretion.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but there was a SpaceX related segment on 60 Minutes last night. Bigelow Aerospace founder says commercial world will lead in space Robert Bigelow is one quirky guy (his UFO stuff), but I think his expandable modules for space habitats have great potential. SpaceX delivered his first experimental module to the ISS last spring on Thiacom 8. At about the 10:20 mark there is a cool shot of that Falcon 9 booster rocket landing on OCISLY. Always good to see SpaceX getting positive media attention in front of a large audience.
