Oh well. It is an engineering test vehicle. No doubt lots of rickety prototype stuff in there. Probably some pressure over limit kind of thing. Too bad they still can’t get access to a flight proven Raptor though!
Not sure if it was just down to landing leg failure, or if it came down too fast. Seemed to be a bit of a bounce on landing, so maybe the latter.
SN10 might've had one or two landing legs fail, but otherwise this flight was quite the success. SpaceX clearly demonstrated a flawless flip maneuver, then smoothly decelerated the vehicle to touchdown. The relaunch explosion was awesome to watch! Scott Manley will have a field day video editing and dissecting the details.
Just had a chance to watch on the SpaceX site. Absolute awesomeness! John was right in that we’ve seen some of the most exciting advancements in space flight. Congrats Team SpaceX! And the NASA Spaceflight.com’s video of it exploding, well pretty awesome to see too. Starship launches at 10:24 minutes in. They did what they set out to do, so great day.
