Ik kreeg een paar weken geleden deze mail van DI.fm:
Ik vermoed dat DI vanwege die beperkingen (en kosten) niet langer wil dat de gratis streams op andere plaatsen dan via hun eigen platform worden aangeboden.
When I founded Digitally Imported in 1999, it was with the goal to bring the best electronic music to other fans all around the world. That is still at the core of everything that we do here.
Our commitment to the music has also meant that we are paying royalties on the music that is streamed through Digitally Imported. Last week, the Copyright Royalty Board in the United States imposed new royalty rates for the years spanning 2016-2020. In the process, this move also eliminated the special royalty rates which existed for small webcasters such as Digitally Imported. Beginning in January, our royalty costs will therefore increase dramatically, as they will for all the other independent webcasters in the US. I am sad to say that many will likely not stay in business as advertising revenue will not be enough to pay for their costs. In order to maintain profitability and continue to keep this great music available, Digitally Imported is also making some hard decisions to limit our free streaming service in the near future.
This is where we turn to you, our loyal listeners. I am personally inviting you to upgrade to DI Premium to support our service. DI Premium gives you commercial-free access to all our music with higher audio quality, and the small amount it costs each month allows us to pay royalties while continuing to grow as a company.
Ik vermoed dat DI vanwege die beperkingen (en kosten) niet langer wil dat de gratis streams op andere plaatsen dan via hun eigen platform worden aangeboden.
