Stainless Steel considered for SEMI ?

Elon's back to basics problem solving lead SpaceX to Stainless Steel. They threw away $ millions in carbon fiber production equipment of the FBR (Falcon Big Rockette) LA, CA making the largest machines - how many meters in diameter? Special buildings on the waterfront at Port of LA for easy access to ocean transport.

side note: carbon fiber for Falcon series of rockets, Roadster, SEMI

Any way, after Elon learned all the details of stainless properties and got the inspiration for CyberTruck.
Exoskeleton (aviation did almost a century ago) , avoid stamping, avoid painting.

What about the SEMI ? replace carbon fiber with Stainless? Maintenance benefits? Cost savings without paint?
Offer as an option? Devil in the details and the costing people will work it out - and Elon/Franz will double check the calculations.

IF only the lawyers & patent system hadn't stopped Covetic Aluminium we'd have more options.
Not sure of covetic metals status. Sandy Munro showed off

Thinner sheets and not cold rolled (as extra strength not really needed).
Stamping machines - volumes maybe too low? CyberTruck inspired angular design?
Used to be fiberglass & carbon fiber for low production, aluminium for medium, and steel for large/mass production.
1-40,000 low; 40,000-80,000 medium; +80,000 for steel - guesses as I don't have access to actual present day costs.

What is the current status of covetic metals?? Lawyer & patent fights seemed to have stopped so far.

Where did the myth that avoiding stamping is cost effective come from?

From a supplier standpoint, stamping (and especially coil fed stamping) is the bread and butter. Cybertruck panels arent stamped because of the tonnage that would be required for that stainless steel composition & thickness.

Stainless steel parts are stamped every day.

correct - If you don't harden stainless (cold rolling) then you can easily stamp. And the Interior parts of cybertruck will be stamped (see pictures) and to avoid paint they will also be of stainless steel. size matters Large panels require large stamping machines. You've seen how big those panel stamping machines are and how much space they need. Flat panel stainless is now a thing, right?

BUT now we have the idea of flat panel designs. Complex build decision, no doubt and I don't know the answers. Just mean to suggest a stainless skin for SEMI is no doubt being considered. Which series of stainless and construction details, I have no idea. So trying to mention some of the factors that will be or are being considered.

It could be volumes of SEMI don't justify stamping machines so best is probably carbon fiber (fiber glass probably too heavy perhaps.
AND of course they could out source to a supplier. side note: Tesla makes their own seats and are perhaps the only car maker that does? Tesla has few suppliers - vertical integration one of their secrets.
