I agree they absolutely should know what it is (it's their job) but you won't find hardly any 14-50s installed in homes in the US. You will find 14-30s though (dryer outlets) in basically every house.

Huh? Really, very few 14-50's in US homes?

What do most free standing electric stoves use for a connection? Maybe built-in ranges are hard wired, but certainly not free standing. There sure seems to be a lot of 14-50 'stuff'' in Lowes and Home Depot.

Electricity gets people who don't know better killed. Maybe I'm interfering with Darwin, but I'd prefer to see people live.

I can't remember which one mine uses, but it's definitely not a 14-50.

Homes built before 1996 will typically have NEMA 10-50's. 1996 code cycle made 4-wire (NEMA 14) a requirement for all new installations. Most jurisdictions adopted it between 1996-2000.
