I've been waiting for a car maker to do this as a standard option by dual-purposing camera systems.
In this case, the new Cadillac CT6 has a Surround View option that works by having cameras pointing forward, back, left and right and then digitally stitching their view into a simulated top-down birds eye view when parking or driving slowly in tight spaces. They are reusing the same cameras for a video recording system both during driving and as part of the security system for parked cars. The Bolt EV is going to have Surround View also but I don't know if it will have the recording feature.
Tesla really needs to get on this both as an additional margin cash generating option and as a convenience so owners don't have to figure out which aftermarket system like Blackvue to have installed at a custom shop.
