The wait is over – Tesla is now selling a $35,000 all-electric sedan.

The announcement was teased by Elon Musk is recent days and Tesla made the budget Model 3 available for order Thursday afternoon.

The Standard Range base model will start at $35,000, travel 220 miles on a single charge, hit a top speed of 130 mph and go from 0 to 60mph in 5.6 seconds.

A version called “Standard Range Plus” is $37,000 with 240 miles of range, a top speed of 140mph, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 5.3 seconds.

Standard Range Plus also give the option for a “Partial Premium Interior” that includes:

Tesla also announced that it is shifting sales worldwide to online only. “You can now buy a Tesla in North America via your phone in about 1 minute, and that capability will soon be extended worldwide,” the company said in a blog post.

Tesla said it wants to make it easier to try out and return a Tesla. Consumers can now return a car within seven days or 1,000 miles for a full refund.

“Quite literally, you could buy a Tesla, drive several hundred miles for a weekend road trip with friends and then return it for free,” the post said.

Shifting all sales online, combined with other ongoing cost efficiencies, will enable Tesla to lower all vehicle prices by about 6% on average, allowing the company to achieve the $35,000 Model 3 price point earlier than expected.

“Over the next few months, we will be winding down many of our stores, with a small number of stores in high-traffic locations remaining as galleries, showcases and Tesla information centers,” the post said. “The important thing for customers in the United States to understand is that, with online sales, anyone in any state can quickly and easily buy a Tesla.”

Tesla also announced a number of firmware upgrades for both new and existing customers. The upgrades will increase the range of the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 to 325 miles, increase the top speed of Model 3 Performance to 162 mph, and add an average of approximately 5% peak power to all Model 3 vehicles.

You can actually pick the car up at the Freemont factory and the destination fee gets waived. So technically it does start at $35,000 aside from the small doc fee.

You make it sound like you know that for a fact. But I picked my Model S up in Fremont and still got charged the destination fee. The reason is simple, it’s a fee required to be the same at each location by law.

What Lamborghinis did you own? And which Ferrari's?

I'm having trouble understanding your interest in the Model 3 and your concerns.

You've owned Ferrari's and Lambo's and you're concerned about where you could get your Model 3 serviced?o_O

You owned multiple Italian supercars and you're worried about the build quality of a Tesla?

You need the longest range Model 3 because it needs to be able to make the round trip to Chicago in the winter but the availability of the $35K short-range Model 3 is what caught your interest?o_O And you don't trust much of what Tesla has to say?

If I believed all that, I wouldn't even waste my time on a Tesla forum, I would go buy another Volt! Or a couple of Lamborghinis. A 2019 Lamborghini Aventador Aventador S Roadster with it's 22.5 gallon fuel tank can easily make a winter round trip of around 250 miles without needing to fill up. Or, you could just take one of your Chevy Volts. I know the all-electric winter range on the freeway is only about 30 miles realistically, but the gas engine will get you close to 400 miles and gas is cheap.:D

I gave your post a like, so now I have to literally type out that I though it was also very funny. Reading this thread to its end, which is now on page 7, I think the message he is sending is not so much his interest in Tesla, but why others shouldn't be. Seems to me that there is a word one can use to describe that type of person... just slips my mind at the moment.

It's right there in the early adopters job description: You will pay more and get less.

Here is some good news for early adopters, ya :)

That looks good.:)

Unfortunately, it won't stop the people who feel extra entitled to something they were never promised, from complaining, moaning, groaning, and generally being negative and unhappy. I'm not sure who taught these people how to live lives filled with so much misery, but they sure seem to thrive on it.

Not an option. You cannot pickup at the factory. I picked up my X at the Fremont delivery center 1 mile from the factory. This is were many of the deliveries in the SF Bay Area are made. The delivery fee is fixed and would be the same regardless of where in the US I picked up the car.

I fulfilled my summer commitment but I was glad to leave. I could do it for a living if I had to, but I would choose almost anything else first.

I hear you! These are jobs that shouldn't even exist, at least not in the huge numbers they do. And they wouldn't if everyone bought their used cars from original owners and their new cars online. Nobody should have to be a car "salesman". All the previous ones have polluted the waters. And it's unproductive work in the larger picture of things. The way most car sales work now could be more accurately described as anti-productive overall, not "unproductive"..

And then I just clicked on a form to ask a product specialist to contact me. When I hit submit button the form goes light and one of those little wheels starts to spin on the page but never stopped. So I'm guessing they'll never get my request for a call. I give up. This company seems to be as f'd up as the WSJ would lead you to believe.

Yes, please just give up. If you do ever succeed then we would just have to hear you complain about every little thing you can't figure out with the car. :)

A big thank you to Tesla!

In the spirit of where this thread seems to occasionally drift from time to time, I was one of the first to take delivery in Canada. Yes I paid a little more then what I would pay now, but then I was also able to enjoy the car for nine months, and I received the full tax credit in the Province where I currently live, which may not be the case for potential future buyers. So many people complained that the base Model 3 was just a hoax, a bait and switch to con people into raising an interest free loan for Tesla. Well it is finally here. As a new startup in the automotive industry, it is not hard to imagine that reaching the base Model 3 trim level is no small feat and I think Tesla deserves some recognition for taking the painful, but necessary steps to get here. Having tested it extensively now in four seasons, I can honestly say that the Model 3 is a really great car, and I have no regrets.

Not sure how "Since you overpaid on your FSD preorder we will now allow you to alpha-test unfinished self driving software in your own car at your own risk as long as you do some extra work for us too and provide feedback in exchange-also please sign this NDA" is "good news for early adopters"

Actual good news would be "Since your FSD purchase was a pre-order on something we still have not delivered we will be refunding you the amount between what you paid and what new FSD buyers, who also are still pre-ordering something with no new features and no ETA for them beyond 'later this year', pay today."

I was able to get through to them and did go through the trade evaluation process. They offered me $4,600 less for my daily driver then the current Manheim MMR wholesale value, meaning they could drive my car to the auction up the road and sell it for $4,600 more than they paid for it. So not a serious offer...

Just to add my personal experience, I took delivery of Model 3 Midrange in Dec 2018. Per the MPVA, I paid $35,000 for Model 3 + $11000 for Midrange i.e. $46000 (didn't include other upgrades), but today when I configure the same vehicle, the costs is $40,000 ..

So, essentially, I paid $6000 more for the same vehicle just 2 months ago ... of course, I get $3750 more in the fed tax rebate, so essentially I still overpaid $2250 for the same spec car

Hardware, as in actually delivered things, getting cheaper... eh, it happens. That I'm not gonna complain much about it- my car is like $1500 cheaper now than September in that sense, but I also got to drive the thing for 5 extra months so at least I got SOMETHING for the money. Heck, I've saved pretty near that much in gas in that time.

But vaporware you essentially pre-ordered, out of which one has gotten 0 use or value to this point, getting cheaper with still nothing delivered and you don't get the difference back? That's crap.
