Very interesting. Electrolytes have always been a big issue for Li-ion. Changing the electrolyte may make these batteries safer, which is a huge deal. If they can really get the cost down, that could be a huge gain for EVs. Thanks for the article.

If yes they are developing this new battery not only at MIT.

From what I've been reading these Sekisui parts are going to be compatible with the Panasonic 18650 battery but it looks it will be a couple of years before we find out if this will enhance battery use for Teslas.
