Hi All,

I have very few Driver profiles in my 2018 Model X.
Whenever I move anything, the car prompts to "Save"
the current positions.
The driver's seat position and the external rear view mirror
are properly memorized.
As I change from one profile to another the seat and the mirror
both move - The steering wheel does not move with a profile change.

The Steering wheel only moves when the funny knob/lever is moved up or down and in or out.
I am then prompted to "Save" the new position which I do.
Still no change with a change of profile.

I have deleted all profiles, including "easy entry" which I use... no change in behavior.
I have rebooted the car many times for new firmware.
Currently 2020.48.26 and no change in steering wheel behavior.

My 12 volt battery was changed in November.
I cannot remember if the steering wheel behavior was correct before the change of battery.

Does anyone know where the memorized position is "stored"?
Seat Controller? ECU? MCU(2)? Memory Seat Module?

Thank You,

Shawn

Once in a while, my 2018 seems to forget about the steering wheel telescoping position. I can get it back by running it through the full range, then saving the position. The telescoping (in/out) position is the only parameter that it seems to forget..

Hi Dave,

Thank you.
I tried running the wheel to the furthest in and furthest out.
Then all the way up and all the way down...

Still no joy - The steering wheel only moves by its own button/lever...

I'm signed up for service on January 5...

I'm still hoping for a fix...

Shawn

Mine was doing that after a software update back in August for a few months. Long enough that I had to disable the entry profile so it would stay in the correct position, then in December it started working again after another software update.

Hi @CuriousM3,

I think our problems are the opposite of each other...
Every profile for me (including entry profile) does NOTHING...
My wheel is always in the same position.

I have a mobile service appointment for January 19.
For a "Steering Column Calibration."
It sounds like attach their Toolbox PC and at some position
reset the steering wheel memories to zero. Up - Down and In - Out...
After that hopefully it will count and record its proper position.

Hi All,

I had my mobile service appointment today for a "Steering Column Calibration."
It was quite simple and fast: The technician dropped the cubby underneath the MCU,
attached his PC, and ran calibration program.
The steering wheel went up and down, in and out, and he was finished in 5 minutes.

The car now accepts the "Save" when the steering wheel is moved.
The steering wheel moves to the saved positions when a profile is changed.

All is good here...

Seems I have the same problem With my MX. is there some way to do this myself?

Hi @Bestla ,

Yes. In the past year of software updates Tesla added this option on your menus.
When you bring up your list of menus, it is under the “Service” option.
In the right column of choices - Choose the option to calibrate the steering wheel, seats,
and others.
I am away from my car, so I cannot give the exact text.
Choose that option from the menu and choose calibrate steering wheel from the options.

You may want to move your seat back before choosing this option because it cycles the steering wheel to fully “up” and fully “down.”
It may press uncomfortably on your legs.

I am not sure this option is available on all model years of Model X.

Good luck,

Shawn

Thank you, Shawn. Unfortunately I don’t seem to have that option in my 2016 MX 🥺

Hi @Bestla ,

That is unfortunate…
It can be done by mobile service.
I had my 2018 recalibrated by mobile.
Before I could even greet the technician he had my car open connected and recalibrated.
He introduced himself and left…
It should be relatively inexpensive.

Good luck,

Shawn

Unfortunately in Norway they're quoting half an hour for this.

I'm trying to find where to do a 12v reset on a Model X - anyone know how to do this?
