Because this is effectively a budget bill, and not a policy bill, you can't write it off as dead until the final gavel falls to close the session. We're at about the half-way mark of the scheduled session, so I wouldn't assume anything yet. It's even possible that parts of this bill could be added to something else as amendments.

Tell your legislators your position if you haven't already.

Is this bill actually going anywhere? Seems like we're getting pretty late in the session, and there doesn't seem to be anything like this in the House, right?

I just got this note in my email:

Good afternoon,
Thank you for contacting Representative Chapman’s office. Senate Bill 5971 is dead this year.
Thank you for your support

Just got this response:

Thank you for reaching out regarding Senate Bill 5971. You will be happy to know that this bill did not pass out of committee prior to our self-imposed deadline and is “dead” and no longer eligible for consideration by the House/Senate. Politics being what it is, there can at times be exceptions. However, because it was not referred out of committee prior to the March 1st deadline, it is not likely to be acted upon during the 2019 Legislative Session.

I would encourage you to monitor the progress of the bill here as this legislation will be automatically re-introduced next year.

I appreciate your feedback on all legislation. Please continue to stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Morgan Irwin
