Strange PW discharge behavior last 24 hours.... help please?

Seeing some strange behavior. I have a 6.6kw PV and 2 PW's and my system is always set to Backup Only.

For the last 24 hours the mobile app is alternatingly showing Discharging and Charging on the Power Flow screen. I typically see 2-3% vampire drain daily at which point the PW's will recharge from solar to 99%. The last 24 hours the batteries show 100%. Grid has been up the whole time.

I have a sump pump that has been kicking on every minute or so for the last 24 hours. Could that be what is causing this behavior? See attached screenshots. Thank you!

Can you double check you're actually set to "Backup Only"? I got a notification on my app saying something to the effect of "we're updating the app and have to change you off of Backup Only to Self Powered with 100% reserve" (which functionally should be the same as backup only). I'm still on backup only but perhaps Tesla flipped something on their side and you're now on Self Powered?

Check out the threads regarding the new software (v21.31) or the new app (v4.0), which likely contain the answer. In short, Tesla has gotten rid of backup only. Instead, systems (like both yours and mine) that were set to backup only are now set to self-powered mode with a 100% reserve. The old app still will show you in backup-only mode, but you won't actually be in backup-only mode.

In self-powered mode, it appears to put a lot more "work" into maintaining 100% charge, versus the backup-only behavior where it would drain to ~97% and then re-charge every day or two to ~99%. I saw the same graph patterns as you, starting right after the PWs updated to the latest version.

@gpez yes, set to Backup Only. See attached.

@wjgjr i'm on v3.10.14, do I have to update something to move to v4.0? Or is it automatic?

thanks agalook

Looks like you’re using IOS so you should go to the App Store and update it from there.
