Stuck on "provide insurance" with no VIN

I see a "lot" of cars being delivered with all sorts of dates. I received the email a week ago from Tesla telling me that they dont have a VIN set up but get ready.......

How long do you guys think it will take. We have all of our financing in place, all other information in place except for the insurance since I need the VIN.

I placed the order back in February. Blue LR "19s no FSD. We are in TX. BTW Austin Pond Springs has the same exact car on the lot.

Wife wants her car....I also received a 2020 MSP earlier in March (which I ordered after the Y)

Thoughts?

Many folks are stuck at "drafting your contract..." step for weeks. With the factory closed, I don't expect them to deliver the base model Y for another 3-6 months.

I am at drafting your contract step as well since mid March. LR AWD White/White 19'' no FSD.

for the specific issue:

I had a similar issue when my vin wasn't verified in time,

I sent my existing insurance data together with a statement from my insurance company that I was covered so long as the specific vehicle data was provided to them within seven days after delivery.
Nearly always finance will accept that too, nearly always if the new have the same finance company and they are familiar with your insurance company policies.

I'm also stuck on "provide insurance" as a next step (I've uploaded it, but it hasn't moved from "next steps" to "completed"). Also have "drafting up contract." Has been this way for weeks, even after I got a call, three weeks ago, to confirm that I am not trading in a car...only advice I got was that I need to check my account DAILY, which frankly, I was anyway. I seriously don't expect to see a car until the summer. And that's fine...I'll be working from home till then anyway.

I was told to submit my current insurance ID card for my non tesla vehicle. I sent those to my delivery center contact, and he just uploaded them to my account (same as you can do from the account page). I'm not on the drafting contract phase, been on that for about a week now.

I don't want to provide proof of insurance when I could be waiting 2-3 months.....Why start paying for insurance early? Is anyone else in this position?

presumably, I'll wait until I get a delivery date before starting the insurance.

Ordered 2/12/2020 MY AWD Blue/Black interior Gemini wheels, no FSD, no performance.

When I spoke to my delivery person, they said I needed to upload proof of insurance. I said, how can I do that if I don't have a VIN yet. They said, no just upload any proof of insurance (meaning my current insurance ID's for my current non tesla car). I said, you sure? That seems odd. They said, yep, send me the picture of your current insurance ID. I said, okay and sent that. They then just uploaded that to my account page, and now I'm on the waiting for contract stage. So, it seems like they just want you to upload some form of proof that you have/will have insurance, and then you show your actual tesla proof of insurance when you get the car scheduled for delivery.

There are no gemini wheels out there other than the performance orders. I was on the fence about the gemini wheels and when I saw the videos my wife and I liked the 20" better. I upgraded the wheels and got a text for delivery in lees than 12 hours after the upgrade. I picked it up yesterday.

In some states you have to show an insurance policy for the exact vehicle you are buying. In others you only need to show that you have a current policy for some vehicle. With most if not all insurance companies you have a grace period of 7 to 30 days of coverage when you add or replace a vehicle.

Once we get to the process of "drafting up contract", can I still upgrade my wheels if I want to? Or do I need submit a new order?

It is a big club. I've been at "drafting your contract" since around March 17.

Ordered LR AWD MSM w/Geminis and haven't been tempted to call to switch to the 20's - as I'm wanting to max out on range. I've also been driving a firm suspension on 20" wheels on an Infiniti FX35 for 16 years so looking to avoid repeating that bumpy ride.

Are the 20’s really that big of a hit?

You need to call a delivery specialist to change it.

Yes. I decided to get FSD as I had it on my 3 - had originally thought I'd save some bucks but changed my mind. I've always believed to get things exactly like you want them so you're always happy with them. Also changed financing to Navy FCU vs Tesla-arranged Wells Fargo. Emailed my delivery specialist and he made both changes in about 3 minutes - order page confirmed updates. I still have the original order number from 8 Jan 2020, now just stuck on "drafting contract" like so many of us... :(

Thanks for the info! Very helpful.
