Substitue the key fob with a bluetooth phone

It sure would be nice to be able to use my Bluetooth phone as a proxy for the key fob. Just pair the phone with a passcode so only allowed devices can be used instead of the fob.

And for added security, request a PIN or passcode on the phone before powering up the car.

Or in addition, allow a smartphone to be plugged into the USB port to act as a key fob proxy, again with pairing security and/or a PIN or passcode required to power up the car.

Seems like something Tesla could easily add via software updates. No additional hardware required.

Just a thought: Leave an ibeacon in the car, configure your iphone with IFTTT and VisibleTesla to respond when your phone approaches. You'll still need the fob to be present in the car but you could leave it inside with the battery out or in some kind of protective cover.

Or better yet, fingerprint with the phone :) The iPhone 5s has a fingerprint scanner.

Yeah, that would work!

Interesting. Seems like several possible points of failure, though.
