Has this been suggested before?
It sure would be nice to be able to use my Bluetooth phone as a proxy for the key fob. Just pair the phone with a passcode so only allowed devices can be used instead of the fob.
And for added security, request a PIN or passcode on the phone before powering up the car.
Or in addition, allow a smartphone to be plugged into the USB port to act as a key fob proxy, again with pairing security and/or a PIN or passcode required to power up the car.
Seems like something Tesla could easily add via software updates. No additional hardware required.
