Came across this prototype in Irvine today

Not sure I understand. That is just a standard R1S prototype that is now being produced and deliveries in small numbers start in a couple of weeks. Not some new or unknown prototype. Probably someone from corporate roadtripping in it before it is recycled since it is no longer needed as test prototype. Here is a production R1S parked next to an R1T.

Also while I love the R1T I don't care for the R1S. However they ARE produced off the same platform and share many common parts, specs and features.

Luxury vehicles are always great, but what Rivian needs to do (to survive), is to build more affordables vehicles.

From watching Sandy Munro videos, Rivian is outsourcing a lot of their components,​
so they don't have too much control for making changes to follow new requiremts, mostly to save on cost.​
For example, the wood dashboard, could be streamed down to make their vehicles​
both more affordable and more profitable for the company.​

I can't wait for the next R2T and R2S and so on...
