Sudden stop

When I'm reversing, the car suddenly switches into park.
Has anyone seen this before?

It will do this if the door is opened.

Will also do it if you are not buckled up. I believe there's a message on screen explaining why when that happens. Even if you just shift your weight to look back enough that the seat sensor doesn't detect you anymore, it might do that I think...

I have backed my car up in the driveway without my seatbelt on many times to wash it. The ding-ding goes off, but it doesn't go into Park. Maybe eventually....

IF you go fast enough it won't park. It's when you go slowly that it does it. The car won't do a harsh, jerk move...

if you lift your butt off the bottom cushion while not buckled it will also engage park.

Thanks Dave. That makes sense. FYI one of the doors has damage from a collision. My friend backed into it. Its going to cost him CDN$5,500. Maybe there is a sensor acting up.
