So just taking a quick look at the state of battery tech. There is already a discovery that would be a vast improvement to the Tesla line although it would be kind of odd and somewhat "Back to the Future 'esq" to pour gatorade into your Tesla.

Sugar batteries have shown to last 10x longer than equal size Lithium ion batteries and some reports say 10x some say 15x more powerful.

So just on weight savings alone with 1/10th the battery weight for equal range. Not sure how much of the current 1,200lb battery is due to the 7,000 lithium batteries.

Even if it were 500 to 600 lbs that would make a considerable performance difference.

There is also a Lithium style version.
This one is a bit more recent.. also looks like Virginia Tech is working on this.

New battery technology is rife with vaporware. There will be no revolution in battery storage, only steady evolution. Don't forget batteries have been around since before the car.
