I have a 2013 Model S with 162k mi. The car has been pretty good with repairs until recently. About a year ago, it started taking up to one minute to start. The local service center says it is because the MCU is old. A replacement is about $1600.
About six months ago, a noise developed in the rear of the car sounding like a slight grinding noise. I knew it was related to the drive train because the faster I drove, the faster the noise went. The Tesla service center suggested replacing the drive unit for a cost of $7,500. Shouldn’t these last longer?
Does anyone have any suggestions about a repair shop in southern California that might do this cheaper?
