Super Cruise and Ultra Cruise monthly payments

So if Tesla offered FSD for around the same... FSD is currently $10,600 CAD + 13% tax = $11,978 CAD. $25 USD = about $33 CAD. 11,978 / 33 = 362.96 (months) / 12 = 30.24 (years).

FSD 'forever' price wouldn't make sense at all, especially given that FSD stays with the car and not your account. Even if you factor in Tesla in-car internet as a prerequisite ($15.80 CAD taxes in), that still gives you 11,978 / 48.8 = 245.45 (months) / 12 = 20.45 (years) worth of FSD. Given most cars hit their *sugar*-the-bed point more consistently after their 10 years point, subscription method is a no-brainer.

Also keep in mind that nothing has been explicitly noted that you have to keep the subscription all the time. Use it for just the months you need or if they force you to take a minimum amount of months at a time (3 months, 6 months), you're still ahead of the curve.

EDIT: Pre-coffee spelling

Yea but GM ultra cruise and the monthly subscription doesnt even exist yet. Maybe they will preview it next month when the EV Hummer is unveiled. I dont think it will be around till 2022. By then who knows what tesla will be doing.

True. Then again, a high monthly cost could scare people away too. Could certainly be more than GM's estimates but I think they'll have to find something rational, as most despise spending a lot on their cell phone bills as is.

Something everyone seems to be missing is that you have to buy a SuperCruise capable vehicle before you can enable it. For example the base 2021 Escalade is $77,490 but you can't add Super Cruise to it. You have to upgrade to the "Premium Luxury" bringing the price to $84,290. But then you have to add the "Driver's Assist" package package, $6,350, before you can finally add "Super Cruise" for $2,500. Bringing the minimum vehicle price to $93,140. So it costs you $15,650 to get Super Cruise. (You do get a lot of extra things along with it, but that is the minimum entry price.)

The $15/month is just to be able to continue using what you already paid for, after the initial free period. So you can't really compare the subscription pricing to what Tesla will offer in the future.

True didnt think of this. We don't know how it's going to be an add on. If they charge you and a monthly fee

Well, the monthly cost could be related to required connectivity or software updates.

This is what they say:

New owners of 2018 (produced September 6th, 2017, and later), 2019*, and 2020 models receive the Super Cruise Package, which includes 3 years of OnStar to support functionality. To continue Super Cruise functionality after the 3-year Super Cruise package ends, an OnStar plan must be purchased.

So you have to buy the hardware and software, which comes with 3 years of connectivity and map updates. After the 3 years you have to pay if you want to continue to use the hardware, and software, that you paid for.

Well, the monthly cost could be related to required connectivity or software updates.

Yes, the $25 monthly cost is for the required connectivity and map updates.
