I wouldn't be surprised if that number includes the L2 stalls, of which I counted 30 in the pics posted above.
“Finally got word that this site is indeed the new Barstow Supercharger,” MarcoRP tweeted a few days later, though the sourcing of this confirmation is unclear. “I don't know the number of stalls right now but I'd ballpark 60-80.”

Even that was an underestimate of what is now 100 projected Supercharger stalls, according to Barstow's mayor.

Let me make it clear for you, Barstow's mayor is not a reliable source on this matter. I don't doubt that there will be at least 100 charging stations, but people not intimately knowledgeable about EVs never understand that you need to separate out the numbers for DCFC and L2 charging. Unless the mayor made a comment that specified the number of superchargers AND the number of L2 stations, any number he gave is almost 100% going to be for all charging stations. When there's only a handful of L2 stations, that doesn't make much difference. But in this case there's at least 30 L2 stations.

Looks like it's more than 60, triple figures: 100

That article is a carbon copy of the MSN one. No new information, and literally all anyone needed to do was count the number of pedestals, that's IT.

That article states the current largest EV charging station is the 70 stall tejon ranch outlet, not even close. Caltech has 160 charging spots in their parking garage.
Comparing L2 stall count to DCFC stall count is not useful. The fact that the article people are talking about here is not differentiating between them is a problem, but I know that you know the difference.

Wow! It feels like they were pushing dirt around 6-8 weeks ago and according to the pics above, we appear to be all but done! They even have decorative concreted/landscaping in place. By the end of June (Q2) is a 99.9% certainty, I'd say. Maybe even any day now by the looks of this progress! 😍

Anyone have any idea as to what the use case would be for ~30 @ L2 chargers in a location like this?

I just don't see it. . . Superchargers are one thing. You're full in less than an hour, and simply move your car. But with the L2? I guess you can charge to full for 6-8 hours and then awkwardly move your car at that point in time? Maybe they expect cars to sit there overnight as a general rule? However, most folks check into a hotel at ~4PM and are in for the night, right? But now the car sits there for 16+ hours plugged in when it only needs to be there for 6-8 hours? 2-3 hours of L2 charging while you "shop" and you only get ~75 miles, so the "shopping" argument kinda falls flat. . . I don't get it! Maybe we have a situation where the adjacent hotel adds a handful of L2s just for overnight guests? But this is clearly not what we're looking at. There's going to be ~30 of them! In the middle of the Desert?

I'm sure I'm missing something. . . What do you guys think?

Not yet energized but here are some pics from today. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets flipped on for the holiday weekend then turned off to complete the construction after the rush.
