I just saw a post on Facebook from Postech Screw Piles (Lethbridge). The post showed some pictures of the supercharger construction currently occurring in Bassano, AB.

It would seem that the fB post has since been deleted. Is take it there are only 6 stalls, for we can only see 5 in the photos, and Tesla usually doesn't install more than 1 pull in stall per location with 12 stalls or less, unless that is the model of a Supercharging location (Vancouver Burrard).

I've reframed the 4 photos that were uploaded via screenshot, so they are not in high quality.

Most of the other sites recently prepp'ed along the Trans-Canada this year are 6 stalls and based on the extra equipment bases, are V3. (see also North Bay thread, first evidence of Tesla hardware being installed)

All the more reason to be curious about Medicine Hat. It and Swift Current are the missing links. Maybe these guys move on to Medicine Hat next? We can hope.

See map. Half way between Medicine Hat and Calgary. Big enough for a stop.

You think that's "never heard of it", wait til you see Ignace. If they ever get that one going...

Also: Considering they chose Bassano rather than Brooks must indicate they do plan on putting a charger in Medicine Hat. Brooks would have been a better half-way point for Maple Creek to Calgary.

Bassano, AB

Along National Highways: TCH/AB-1

I-TCH/AB-1:
From: Canmore, AB - 240 km
To: Medicine Hat, AB (Permit) - 159.5 km
Diversion: 1 km
From: Golden, BC - 398.6 km
To: Maple Creek, SK (Construction) - 255.9 km

From: Rocky View, AB (AB-2, TCH/AB-1) - 150.5 km
To: Sudbury, ON - 2886.5 km

This is a key location between Calgary, AB and Medicine Hat, AB.

The next obvious gap is the known sites is between Maple Creek, SK and Moose Jaw, SK, with the obvious location being Swift Current, SK.

After that, the next "big" gaps in the known locations are in Western Ontario, ON, between Ignace, ON and Nipigon, ON (Kenora, ON probably to fill it) and Terrace Bay, ON to Sault Ste Marie, ON (White River, ON, Wawa, ON and then somewhere in the middle of nowhere looking like they'd be needed.)

The crew doing Sault Ste Marie had said to someone on here they were headed to Wawa next, and that was weeks ago. I suspect that there's activity north of Superior and between Kenora and Thunder Bay that nobody has noted yet. (Kenora, Dryden, Ignace, Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Terrace Bay, White River, Wawa?)

Since Bassano is a much better midpoint between Maple Creek and Canmore, you could use the same logic to argue that it's an indication that they aren't going to immediately put superchargers in either Medicine Hat or Calgary. I don't really think that either argument is all that persuasive.

Its the distance they tend to put between superchargers - a 350km SR+ isn't going to make Maple Creek to Bassano in the winter - 250km? (Besides, there's a supercharger just north of the Calgary bypass, so "to Canmore" is not a necessary measure). Similarly, 300km from Moose Jaw to Maple Creek indicates a Swift Current supercharger is necessary. look at the spacing on the US side of the map (except for North Dakota)

Regina to Saskatoon is only 250km but they seem to think an intermediate stop is necessary at Davidson.

I was thinking the same thing about Brooks. Also thinking there is likely something afoot in Swift Current. We need some eyes and boots on the ground there :)

Yup
The biggest argument for Medicine Hat still happening is ability to comfortably reach Fort McLeod SC direct rather than a roughly 2 hr detour by secondary highway from Bassano down through Vulcan et al. Fort McLeod to Maple Creek is about 50 km further than Bassano to Maple Creek.

But with Bassano in, if Tesla is only covering the #1 to a minimum in a first pass then Medicine Hat has to be in question for this year.

The Saskatoon to Regina leg is a bit different since Saskatoon doesn't itself have a SC, yet, and there isn't any alternative-yet-longer route there at all.

No transformer in Swift yet. No movement the last 4 years. Don't worry once there is actual news it will be posted.
Do you think there is any chance that it'll end up in say Morse, instead? Over the decades driving that route I've stopped at the PetroCan across from the lake there more than I've stopped in Swift Current.

Since PetroCanada plans to have its own charger network, it might not be a friendly, cheap host that Tesla wants.

It's unlikely that a Tesla Supercharger would steal significant business from Petro-Canada's network (since only Tesla owners can use Superchargers and they will choose them over Petro-Canada's network.) On the other hand, if the Supercharger goes in elsewhere, they miss out on the convenience store sales. Main downside I see for Petro-Canada is it could impact how many of their own chargers they can host on the site.

I'm not up on the Morse real estate market, but I'm guessing there's more land available there than that Petro-Can. ;) I didn't mean to suggest that the Petro-Can itself might host it. It isn't a metropolis but there's a few businesses in town. As always a Co-op, which Tesla is working with on at least two other SK SC.

P.S. To boot, it looks like I misremembered. Pulling up Google Maps it is actually an Esso station. Which is kinda embarrassing since the last time I stopped there was only 2 years ago. My core memory from over the years is the road to seemingly nowhere headed South across the lake.
