Credit to Marco for finding this one!

A 20-stall supercharger! In the big gap on the Hume Freeway that is out of scope of the NSW Govt grants!

Benalla is in NE Victoria, just off the Hume, and between the existing Wodonga and Euroa sites.

So much like the NSW Govt sites it's adding capacity on the Hume.

Interesting that they are still specifying V3 sites (recent US application tend to refer to V3/V4), and that there doesn't appear to be any allowance for cars with charging ports on the wrong side (unlike say Figtree).

Seems to be in a lesser used part of the carpark away from the entrance.
Subway, McDonalds and KFC within 300m, and a coffee shop and Indian restaurant just beyond that.

Also interesting that unlike all other V3 sites built and proposed, it's not a multiple of 3, but that's probably dictated by the number of spaces available.

I notice the final plan (on the "haveyoursay" link) shows 6 cabinets which is only enough for 18 stalls. Probably a minor oversight in the images provided.

Agenda is up for Council meeting next week.

Summary of the consultation process.
"The consultation process revealed strong community support for the project.
The key themes from the consultation process that need to be considered by the Council are:
 The importance of ensuring the site is available to both Tesla and non-Tesla electric
vehicles.
 Future consideration of other EV charging options in Benalla and other towns within the
municipality.
 Consideration of accessibility and safety issues at the proposed site"

Around 30% of submissions mentioned being accessible to non-Tesla electric vehicles.

The recommendation for the to be put to the council is
"Recommendation:
1. That submissions be received.
2. That in-principle support be given to the installation of an electric vehicle
supercharger in the carpark at the rear of 49-59 Smythe Street, Benalla.
3. That licence agreement negotiations be finalised with Tesla Motors
Australia Pty Ltd for the use and occupancy of land at the rear of 49-59
Smythe Street, Benalla.
4. That a report on licence agreement negotiations be presented to the
Finance and Planning Committee meeting on 5 April 2023.
5. That submitters be advised of the Council’s decision."

The recommendation does not include specifically requiring that the chargers be open to non-teslas.
I assume this will come up during the Council meeting. Hopefully with a better outcome than Gawler and both parties just negotiate that it will be accessible to all EVs from the start if that ends up being the deciding factor, or just do it anyway.

Will be interesting in future years to see how the trip planner picks between V2 and V3 sites. Certainly for those in the know with higher rated cars the V3 will be faster.
If it's anything like the US and the vids I have seen especially from our of spec on utube then the in car planner pretty much sucks at picking V2 or V3. Seems haphazard with not much smarts. Hopefully it improves.

I didn't see this before but there is also a youtube link of the council meeting,
Time index from 5:30 to 16:00 or there abouts.
This is the first stage in the process of getting the lease to Tesla approved. The next stage is a draft lease to be negotiated with Tesla and brought to a council sub-committee on 5 April and then to be placed on public view for a period of 28 days.
One of the terms to be negotiated is that this be an open access supercharger to all EV vehicles. I think that is a fair term and hope that goes smoothly enough.
After being on public display it would go back to the council proper for a further vote which is expected to be, maybe, the June council meeting.
All council members where extremely positive about the chargers and no one spoke against the motion.
Also another tidbit, two EVIE chargers are about to be proposed in another section of town.

Seems like the only thing left is the report to council on the negotiations. But the negotiations are complete with Tesla based on the status notes.
Thanks. Anyone know typically how long after a report is issued that works begin?
This location will give people the option to bypass Euroa if required & might save a few minutes in charging
