Great turnout!
I notice that of the 11 model S's that are there only one has a front license plate (required in Idaho), so lots of visitors in town.

Is the silver one with Ada County plates yours Rocky_H?

John

Hah! Not just the visitors. Umm…a front plate is required in Idaho? (looks around innocently) Actually many of the Idaho ones I’ve seen around town, including mine, are going commando with no front plate. Year and a half, two police stops, and they’ve never noticed—woohoo! In the picture with the long line of them, mine is the one at the far end in the dark navy blue.

got a chance to use it last week on our vacation, it was really nice to arrive at a city and be able to charge up once and be good for the whole weekend! it was noteworthy that the parking blocks appear to be placed too far from the stations, I had a hard time getting close enough to the station to plug in.

Yes, the parking blocks are really far out. You actually do have to just back up until your tires come up against them, and then the cable reaches fine. They apparently measured them out to exactly that distance on purpose.

I always have to remind myself to pull over the parking blocks, because normally I back in till the blocks are at the bottom of the screen.

No longer question whether or not your vehicle can make it from the Boise area to Winnemucca on a single charge - "say when" to charge at Say When!

At this time, one charging station is available for use, at no cost. Say When Casino is open 24/7 (with the exception of a few hours on Thanksgiving and Christmas). We are a family owned and operated business, and family friendly.

This is great! Huge Thank You!

Assuming one has a 85 KwH battery, one can reach Boise via superchargers from California by driving to Elko, NV then head north on HWY 225. It's about 120 miles farther than going through the direct route via Winnemucca but it's at least possible to get there.

Assuming an 85, one can just drive up from Winnemucca to Boise, 260 miles, with a 2000 foot elevation drop, no less. At least on my map. IF you set cruise at 60, you can easily do that. The problem is, as always, people think they MUST drive 75 across those arid spaces, or pull into the RV parks and spend a couple hours on L2 chargers. Going out of your way 120 miles is 2 extra hours! For why?

This is silly. Driving 300 miles at 60 is 5 hours. At 75, it's 4 hours, but you need to stop for a couple hours to recharge. Driving 300 plus another 120 is 7 hours! Just relax. This is why they invented AP.

Can a person with a 60D make it to Sun Valley from the Boise super charger without going though Twin Falls?

Looks like that should work fine. I just plugged it in on EVTripplanner, which is usually very accurate, with some basic conditions:

Model S 60 with 19” wheels
Speed multiplier: 1
Inside/outside temp: 72 / 72
Payload: 200

And the result shows 170 rated miles used. Actually, since the new 60D is really a 70D in disguise, I switched EVTripplanner to that, and it showed 155 rated miles used, since the D versions are a little more efficient with torque sleep of one motor at highway cruising conditions than the old 60 rear wheel drive was.

If conditions are a little tougher, like more air conditioning used, it will use a little more, but dropping speed by a few miles per hour would cover that. The route is pretty easy going through Mountain Home and highway 20. Highway 20 is very isolated and lightly traveled, so going a little slower is no problem, as people can pass easily. I just drove most of that route from Boise to Arco Idaho a few weeks ago, although I took our Honda Civic Hybrid instead of the Tesla.

Thanks so much for facilitating the EV Charger. We have used it on a few occasions and it makes the Boise Winnimucca route easier to handle and provides a nice break with a meal and time at the Casino. Many thanks from the Idaho Tesla Owners.
