Not gonna lie, I didn't see this one coming. H/T to Drive Tesla Canada for letting me know about this

Centralia, check, Tumwater, check, Lacey, check. Chehalis coming soon. Olympia, the Capitol of WA, zero supercharger love!
I mean Olympia doesn't really need one with all the others in the area. Tacoma has a better gripe but even there, there are quite a few in the area for through travel in any direction.

When I started with Tesla in 2016 there were 5 superchargers in the state of Washington. Just enough to drive through on the interstates.

It seems that the new set of chargers is to add capacity and speed, rather than coverage. It’s an interesting approach that is yet to be achieved by the other charging players, who appears to still be constructing 4 carter stations.

My math is that, for every 6 cars traveling on supercharging power, there needs to be one supercharger stall. This is because a charging session may average 100 kw, and a car uses about 20 kw driving at highway speeds. So 8 added chargers on i5 will be about 50 more teslas driving on supercharging power.

A Tesla Supercharger not at a Walmart, but close.

It's on city land and will be $600/mo rent. I'm surprised they agreed to it. I thought those days were over.

I just drove through the area off of Arkansas Way where the EVGo chargers are and didn't see anything. It was dark and rainy so I didn't bother taking pictures. It looks like there is some wiring run for expansion of the EVGo station, which will probably bring it from 2 to 4 stations, but I don't think any of that is supercharger related. There's an area with 8 parking spaces directly across from the EVGo stations and that could be where the supercharger will go. Behind that there is a huge construction project. Not sure what it is, but it looks like an entirely strip mall or stand alone building will be going in there, so maybe the supercharger will be part of that project, but it definitely isn't the whole project.

If the lease was just signed, it'll take a bit for the station to be operational. I doubt they have done more more planning than the feasibility stage at this point.

Even though there is some massive (and questionable) density here with Chehalis, Centralia, Tumwater and Lacey, Olympia does NEED one. There is a large charger gap from Oly to KP, Bremerton. Basically all of 101 and 3 is ghosted from the southern travelers. Heck, put one in at the casino before shelton or belfair or even bremerton.

I think they will put one near the Black Lake Blvd. exit of 101 eventually. Just not sure it is a high priority right now.

Downtown would be kind of cool, but there would be at least some traffic at some times of day and Tesla drivers seem to be easily intimidated by homeless people :)

Hagen will be my guess. Trader Joe's parking lot is vehicular suicide and terrible parking. Hagen has McDonalds, Sonic and Starbucks all in the same lot. If the owners of the site across the street (5-guys, Ashley, Kaiser) were smart, they could try and incentivize a site there.

The sign in front of the constructions says WSECU, which I believe stands for Washington State Employees Credit Union. I found a February 2021 article in the Centralia Chronicle which talks about a 4,200 square foot facility with four drive through lanes. So I believe the construction is unrelated to the proposed supercharger.

As a bonus, that parking lot is almost never full. It's huge for the size of the grocery store.

I'm wondering too about this and other potential Tesla SC sites in Washington state. I've driven Teslas since September 2018 and have three now (myself, my wife, and my son) and I'm in Seattle (Shoreline). Why is Washington so neglected compared to other states, when you compare to how many Teslas there are in WA?

Anybody have an opinion on this?

TIA

I think they prioritize builds based on routes traveled and the corresponding perceived needs. We have i5 routes covered without too much weekend waiting, and the more rural areas are so rural that a dedicated supercharger there won’t get full use even on weekends. I think they currently prioritize builds that can get full on weekends, or ones with targeted government subsidies (British Columbia).

Post ccs interoperability, I think the more rural areas as a combined supercharger/ccs will make financial sense (Pullman, walla walla, highway 20, rainier area).

I agree with you on the plan for the combined SC/CCS models, and the locations of Pullman, WallaWalla
I'd like to see:
1 on HWY 2 between Chelan and Spokane - Wilbur?
1 on HWY 12 between I5 and Yakima - Packwood?
1 on Hwy 20 in Winthrop
