According to CalTrans, the Average Annual Daily Traffic count on Interstate 80 at Cisco Grove is 4,400 per hour and 39,500 per day. I believe these data are from 2020. Traffic counts, elevation gains, and dicey winter driving conditions at times seem to justify why Tesla decided to place a SC in the middle of nowhere.20-stall Supercharger in the middle of nowhere? Welcome to Northern California.
Colfax and Baxter are just too close to other spots further west--Auburn, Loomis, Rocklin, and Roseville (2).
Looks like a new submittal at the same address with a different city and less chargers. Makes it hard to search by thread title. Looking back at the original permit, they have changed the city to Emigrant Gap to match this but there has been no activity since submittal with everything as TDB.Is this in addition to this one?
Supercharger - Soda Springs, CA (LIVE 8 Dec 2023, 12 V3 stalls)
20 V3 stalls coming to Lucky's plaza at Cisco Grove. Marco found the permit. @Big Earlteslamotorsclub.com
More chargers is always better but at almost 6000 ft on the final upslope on the Sierra Nevada this place gets a lot of snow (5ft in a day is not rare). Unless the chargers are laid out for easy plowing and they are frequently plowed they will not be accessible during winter storms. I’d really love to see a big set of chargers in Colfax which is below typical snow line (so gets rain not snow), has more amenities and would also be a great place to top up before going over Donner Pass.I-80 Splitter between Auburn and Truckee, great place to top off before the serious uphill portion heading to Truckee and Reno.
We have a solid bank in Auburn, which is generally clear during snow and in a wide open lot. I drive to our mountain home in Truckee regularly, and for me a quick top up in Loomis is ideal since I can hit the Raley's for last minute groceries and a bathroom stop. I totally agree that more is always better - so I'm OK with this location for now. It's especially useful for people towing a trailer or camper.More chargers is always better but at almost 6000 ft on the final upslope on the Sierra Nevada this place gets a lot of snow (5ft in a day is not rare). As long as they make them trailer friendly. The 8 stall PSU in McDermit NV would be a good blueprint for trailer friendly. PSUs are placed back to back and the right most stall on each side is rotated 90 degrees and placed on a freestanding base creating 2 pull through stalls only size limited by the parking lot.We have a solid bank in Auburn, which is generally clear during snow and in a wide open lot. This isn’t on the find us map so doubtful this will happen before the end of the year.I sure hope this station gets built over the summer. Will be nice to have midway up the mountain for winter skiiing
