Cisco is on Interstate 80 just east of the terminus of SR20 coming in from Grass Valley/Nevada City and Marysville/Yuba City. Should be a great addition for people heading to Reno from the Sacramento Valley and for others to skip Truckee as they head east. With Donner Summit within 20 miles, it is all downhill to Fernley. Longer range vehicles will be able to avoid Truckee and Reno and make it to Fernley (when it is complete) or perhaps even Winnemucca.

20-stall Supercharger in the middle of nowhere? Welcome to Northern California.

This will split the largest gap on I-80 in California, 64.3 miles from Auburn, CA to Truckee - Donner Pass, CA..
As @cpa notes, together with Grass Valley, CA it will also allow serve travel coming from or to traveling to CA-20.

According to CalTrans, the Average Annual Daily Traffic count on Interstate 80 at Cisco Grove is 4,400 per hour and 39,500 per day. I believe these data are from 2020. Traffic counts, elevation gains, and dicey winter driving conditions at times seem to justify why Tesla decided to place a SC in the middle of nowhere.

Colfax and Baxter are just too close to other spots further west--Auburn, Loomis, Rocklin, and Roseville (2).

Maybe Tesla tracks the number of drivers who run out of juice and need towing to a Supercharger. Maybe this stretch of I80 has seen more than a modest share of inexperienced drivers, and this will alleviate the hassle of arranging tows to Superchargers.

Much of Northern and Southern California is in the middle of nowhere. :)

Doesn't matter if they are all full on a Friday evening as happens frequently already. Be great to add an SC in Colfax to top up before heading over the pass if its stormy. We want Tesla to build out charging ahead of the million vehicles a year manufacturing rate they should soon hit in North America. Never mind if they open SCs to others.

Cisco Grove…. No superchargers however there are ChargePoint chargers there should we need juice. The proposed superchargers should be in the same immediate area once they are constructed. Pictures✔️

Tesla is in permitting to install 8 stalls at Lucky's Travel Center at 90 Cisco Road in Emigrant Gap (per permit, Soda Springs per Google Maps). Applied 5/10/23, corrections issued 6/1/23.

I-80 Splitter between Auburn and Truckee, great place to top off before the serious uphill portion heading to Truckee and Reno.

Is this in addition to this one?
Looks like a new submittal at the same address with a different city and less chargers. Makes it hard to search by thread title. Looking back at the original permit, they have changed the city to Emigrant Gap to match this but there has been no activity since submittal with everything as TDB.

Looksmlike zero movement since the original submittal, not even a received date. Also changed the town of the address. And a new permit has been submitted at this Emigrant Gap address for only 8 stalls. Hopefully the mods can add that new thread I started here.

More chargers is always better but at almost 6000 ft on the final upslope on the Sierra Nevada this place gets a lot of snow (5ft in a day is not rare). Unless the chargers are laid out for easy plowing and they are frequently plowed they will not be accessible during winter storms. I’d really love to see a big set of chargers in Colfax which is below typical snow line (so gets rain not snow), has more amenities and would also be a great place to top up before going over Donner Pass.

We have a solid bank in Auburn, which is generally clear during snow and in a wide open lot. I drive to our mountain home in Truckee regularly, and for me a quick top up in Loomis is ideal since I can hit the Raley's for last minute groceries and a bathroom stop. I totally agree that more is always better - so I'm OK with this location for now. It's especially useful for people towing a trailer or camper.

As long as they make them trailer friendly. The 8 stall PSU in McDermit NV would be a good blueprint for trailer friendly. PSUs are placed back to back and the right most stall on each side is rotated 90 degrees and placed on a freestanding base creating 2 pull through stalls only size limited by the parking lot.
