In the Minnesota Future Location discussion thread, @Evbwcaer posted evidence of a possible Supercharger at Clearwater Travel Plaza. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/1802145/ The post includes a link to a permit that mentions Tesla: Permit Given the limited possibilities, and the proximity to I-94 it looks like a good chance that it is indeed a Supercharger site. Then perhaps Alexandria, MN and then Fargo, ND.
This was just added as "under construction" on http://supercharge.info - does someone else know more?
The permit is very likely to be a supercharger since Tesla has said they were going to be putting one in near St Cloud this fall. Since the permit was issued October 12th and they have requested an inspection, it's pretty clear it is under construction even though nobody from TMC has stopped by yet to take a look and report to the forum.
Only two weeks between the permit being issued and the inspection request? Sounds more like work to support a destination charger. I agree that Clearwater is a great location for a SC and the timing makes sense. But the short time between permit and inspection doesn't make sense to me?
One of the Minnesota Tesla Club Facebook group members called up the Clearwater Travel Plaza and confirmed there will be eight supercharger stalls. One of the club members plans to swing by to take a look. Remember that Tesla sometimes gets pretty far along on some of the Supercharger installations before anybody notices. For example, Childress, TX never popped up as a blue dot or a cone. It suddenly appeared as an operational location.
Asking for an inspection doesn't mean the work is done. It could just be something like needing conduit inspected before they fill in the trench.
Which means ... Clearwater, MN Interstates: I-94 US Highways (<= 5 miles): US-10, US-52 I-94: From: Start (I-90, Lockwood, MT) - 779 miles To: Oakdale, MN (I-94, I-694) - 68.1 miles Diversion: 0.1 miles From: Billings, MT (I-90, I-94) - 792 miles To: Albert Lea, MN (I-94, I-35) - 146 miles To: Winnipeg, MB (I-94, I-29, MB-75, MB-42) - 402 miles
Thanks for the photos mn4az. It looks to me that one of the kiosks is pull-up, rather than back-in. Are you guys seeing that too in the first photo? Good if you're towing or have a bike rack on the back.
Drove by in the blizzard today. They have buried the conduit and the lumber framing is in the place for concrete. Nobody was working....but there was a blizzard. Seems to be moving slowly....
Thursday a boring crew was pulling cable under the parking lot. We didn't stop to talk with them as they were really busy but lots of thumbs up from the whole crew as we drove through.
Imagine how the response from crews building the SCs have changed since the first deployment... back then it was "what the hell are these things?" Now it seems they all know what they are!
Does anyone know how long it typically takes to install a Supercharger? On December 9th, I will be traveling from Fargo to Minneapolis for Tesla service. What are my odds of having this done by then? As of today, it has been in "construction" status for 22 days on Supercharge.org.
I wouldn't count on it being done. We have several in NE that started about same time. My best guess would be optimistically Christmas. I am not an expert, but watching a few of these now thru construction phase makes me believe that they have some work yet, not to mention working what now appears to be more winter-like weather. I hope for your sake its sooner, but I'd plan alternative options for charging, as probably your accustomed to doing already. good luck!
That's embarrassing - Somehow the computer automatically cropped my picture and I can't seem to edit my old post... Here's a better image of what Clearwater Travel Plaza looked like on Sunday...
