Supercharger - Coquitlam, BC

Charging nicely. It works. Warm battery, not hot pre-conditioned, at 50 percent, getting 60 kw not on a shared spot. Still it's on and just in time for the weekend.

Thank you Tesla!

Tried the supercharger but it is not like the one in Twassen where you get close to 100kwh. Here only getting max 36kwh. Any suggestions what should I do to maximize the charging. I have 2013 S.
What was your SOC and was your battery warm? I get about 30kW at a V3 at 50% SOC and a cold battery. If your battery is cold, you will not get optimal charge speeds.

I tried this charger today, not the easiest access. If you enter off Lougheed highway going eastbound, you have a series of turns in a very narrow parking lot with lots of opposing traffic. Better access is to turn off Lougheed before IKEA and travel on the south side along Woolridge Street, then north going straight through the parking lot. Much easier and safer, you will realize this when you encounter other vehicles trying to make hard turns in narrow lanes.
PS slow charging, even in this heat, I have a neutered 2015 85D, 68KM to 300km in 45 minutes, 50kW at 50% SOC and tapering! Not much fun watching my wife's MY blaze through the electrons.

is it confirmed coquitlam is getting a new location? or a rumor at this point?

This charger is crazy busy these days. There was a 3 car line-up the whole time I charged today. I feel with the charger being full nobody is getting fast charging rates. Unfortunately this lot is too small to support doubling the number of stalls. Time for another station to be put in Burnaby, with at least 12 stalls.

Rumors have it that Tesla is currently building Superchargers somewhere in Burnaby right now ... but it's very covert and possibly in a garage somewhere ... honestly, we need to double the chargers right now, let alone in a year or two. Since Coquitlam and North Vancouver were built, those two locations are jam packed, always busy and full. Crazy success for Tesla.

I really hope a Burnaby charger is not too far away from the highway, tucked away in some garage. There is no point making them non-accessible just for the sake of building one. Either just off Lougheed, Canada Way or Highway 1 would make sense. Placing in some underground parking lot like Pacific Center, or too far off the beaten path like Guilford Mall really goes against convenience. The worst case I have experienced is the supercharger located near Marysville Washington, 3 km each way off I5 at a casino...what if you don't gamble!
I will keep an eye out in North Burnaby, hopefully near Brentwood Mall would be ideal.

@CFinVancouver yeah casino isn't ideal, and even worse if you have a gambling problem! But I guess for non-gamblers you can at least use the restroom and usually casinos have some dining or snack shops or something available.

Yes agreed about Burnaby, it will be very interesting to see where it winds up, I'm struggling to think of a perfect spot. Metrotown parkade would be good for capacity and has plenty of dining options but it really is out of the way unless Kingsway happens to be along your route. There's South Burnaby along Marine, like maybe the mall with Save-on Foods, Starbucks, etc.? For more Northern Burnaby I guess somewhere near what used to be Brentwood mall would be good for freeway access but where exactly I'm not sure.

The casino offers 24/7 food and restrooms and a convenience store at the gas station nearby. I often hear complaints about casino superchargers, but they are not that bad in my opinion. And the one you mentioned is easily avoidable if you don't want to go there. Just stop in Burlington and/or some place like Northgate in Seattle Metro area if you are passing through.

Also, keep in mind that Tesla sometimes gets favorable deals from eager host properties. The management of that casino has been EV friendly since long before the supercharger was there. They have had many HPWCs and the casino security fleet is comprised of Nissan Leafs. It's also located on tribal land and they were able to cut through all the red tape for the electrical install very quickly. So quickly that the supercharger was completely constructed before anyone even discovered it. I remember finding it myself on a tip from a non-Tesla owner and it was turned on just a few days later. So if Tesla is approached by such a willing host that says "we'll give you a lot of parking spaces and streamline the approval process so it can open very quickly," you can see why Tesla might jump at the chance. It isn't that they are building a supercharger like that instead of building another one at a better location. It's more like why not build an easy one if the offer is there.
