Country Club Plaza - Country Club Hills, IL

Credit goes to Calvin.K for the discovery. After some more digging, I found an article on the charger. It will have 8 charging bays, it will be located at the Country Club Plaza, and began construction in September. The Instagram picture is from two weeks ago, and in that picture the supercharger looks very close to completion.

Some amenities nearby include:

Kingston Jerk Chicken
Sharks Fish and Chicken
Panda Express
McDonalds
Walmart Supercenter
AMC 16 Movie Theater

It looks like this is that one "coming soon" Chicago-area dot on the supercharger map.

The supercharger is ready. Just waiting to be energized. Nearby is Pandas Express, Mickey D's, Pizza Hut, a couple of chicken places, an AMC Multiplex and a huge Walmart. It is on the junction of I-57, I-80, and I-294, perfect location.

Country Club Hills, IL supercharger

I have safety concerns about the Country Club Hills supercharger location. It is practically located in Markham (across the street). A police officer friend of mine from that area said I should never use that location because I would be a $100,000 sitting target. In addition, my friend who worked for the gas company said if they had a service call to that area at night, they needed a police escort.

As I was chraging, I realized that if I were charging & someone nefarious came up to the car, you cannot drive away. You would have to get out of your car and unplug the cable first.

I'm not sure what kind of research goes into a supercharger location, but I am disappointed they didn't pick Tinley Park or Mokena strictly based on safety concerns. I've written Tesla to express my concerns. :crying:

@Jess, I mostly agree with your concerns. I've charged there 3 times, all times alone in my car, 2 times during the day and once at night. As a woman, at night I felt very vulnerable, there was a van that pulled up near me and nobody got out. After a couple of minutes I decided to unplug and leave, luckily I did not need more charge. I will not go there again at night. During the day, however, I did not feel unsafe. Once I was alone charging and the other time there were 3 other Teslas there. I would not linger there any longer than necessary though. And, yes, it's really worrisome that you have to get out of your car and unplug in order to leave if you are in danger.

Wow, I am really glad I found this thread. I am picking up my new P85D at the Grand Avenue, Chicago center on Tuesday and likely was going to be hitting this supercharger after dark on my way back home to Michigan. Does any one know if the security situation there has improved since the last post? Thanks!

Just curious as to why you seem to be taking an out of-the-way detour. Is the Mishawaka, Indiana SC too far if you leave Grand Ave. with a full charge? I don't think that stretch is more than 120 miles if you take I-90 instead of the 294 tollway.

Even Mishawaka would be out of the way back to Grand Rapids. All you should need is the St. Joseph supercharger.
Normally, yes the St. Joseph supercharger would be perfect, but I am actually going from Chicago to Rock Island, IL first to visit family - so on the trip back from Rock Island, IL the first available supercharger on I-80 would be the Country Club Hills supercharger.

Is the Aurora super charger too far out of the way? I know it is out of the way, but it might be less inconvenient than Mishawaka.
