Supercharger - Daly City, CA (LIVE 5 Oct 2018, 40 urban stalls)

Every time I drop by Serramonte, I circle around the back and the new parking structure, wishing, hoping that they plop down some superchargers there. It's a great location so I'm very happy that it's finally happening! I dropped by this afternoon to check it out and the stand definitely looks like urban chargers, but after checking out the site, I think they're building a new stand instead of running conduits. It could very well be a 40 (or 39) stall urban supercharging station. They have the stands all along 3 sides of the north part of the garage. I highlighted it in the aerial.

Very clean raceway design. These are designed to install fast and easily in places like parking garage decks... they're expecting serious traffic here. I'm guessing as they start to get into more dense urban locations closer to SF and Oakland, we'll see many more urban bolt up raceway type installs instead of the traditional boutique hand bent conduit stuff.

I live in SF and actually never been to that Macy's.

But why install it on the roof parking instead of ground floor? That means one has to drive all the way to the back (off of Serramonte) and up/down the garage to use them?...Would've prefer them to be by the target on ground level (or even the other target across 280), which is much more accessible area off of 280. Also, would've preferred fewer full superchargers versus more but slower urban superchargers; seems like it would be much faster for people topping up between 20-80% SOC. Plus this would prevent people from plugging in, having to wait for awhile and just end up going into the mall. Feel like a lot of people are going to be inside the mall while their cars are occupying spots at 100% SOC.

It's better on the roof level so that it doesn't get ICE'd by other mall patrons.
I agree that the rooftop is a good location. There are 20 superchargers in Burbank on the roof of a shopping mall. I was there last June and although the lower floors were busy, there was no problem with ICE-ing. A portion of that floor is reserved by the nearby Tesla Delivery Center to store cars awaiting delivery.

This mall is crazy busy on weekends and during the holidays. Superchargers would definitely get ICEd if in a convenient location. Some of the Volta stations and/or the EV parking next to Volta stations get ICEd because they are close to Target, Macy's, and JCPenney. Probably the only reason why they don't get ICEd more is because EV drivers are hunting these spots down (me being one of them). With that being said, hopefully another Supercharger will pop up on the north side of the Peninsula this year. Otherwise, I'd expect (more) gridlock in December.

I’ve taken the liberty to go behind the fence for a closer look. I counted 20 cabinets and 39 spaces.

Beat me to the update post. Drive by this afternoon and saw the progress first hand. This facility is massive, but given the lines I saw at the Foster City supercharger I wonder if this will be enough. Need to get SF going now.
