A photo of the Dubbo “grand” opening on PlugShare. Supposedly there is also an NRMA Fast charger nearing completion on the same site. There is a photo, but not visible due to a PlugShare bug.View attachment 395850

Does anyone know if there is CCS2 Supercharging stalls at Dubbo. I am planning a road trip there later this year in a rented Model 3

Yep. 100% of Australian sites have CCS2 cables added so Model 3’s are good to go!

Most sites are 100% converted but there are still a few only partial. About 90% of stalls have been converted but it looks like they’re going for 100% (since they haven’t used “Model 3 priority” labels like they have in Europe, where even now many sites still have a mix)

Wait, you can’t Supercharge with a CCS port from a Type 2 Supercharger?

If you could, they wouldn’t need to upgrade all the stalls!

The speculation before release was that the Model 3 would support both Tesla-EU supercharging as well as CCS2 public DC chargers. This would not have required any changes to superchargers.

It turns out, they opted to add the extra cable and offer supercharging with CCS2. The story was that the electronics which detected input and switched the Type 2 side of the port from AC to DC cost about $500 per car. I guess changing all the supercharger stalls was cheaper than adding $500 to the cost of building each car. It means the charging components in the car are 100% industry standard CCS2 hardware.

Side benefit: If Tesla decide, years down the line, to open up their network in Europe/Aus/NZ/etc they'll be able to without an issue since almost every new car in those countries use CCS2. When people talk about opening the SC network in North America, remember no other cars use the Tesla (US) port, and any car which does is locking itself out of all other public DC fast charging networks.
