Supercharger - Ellensburg, WA

If something is happening, I didn't see it. There is a vacant business across the street from the coffee shop, but it's a small lot with an existing building that wouldn't seem a good fit.
Darn, thanks for looking. I’m heading a different direction otherwise I’d prowl around. There is supposed to be a CCS/Chademo DCQC going in soon as well, but probably not for another month or so. So, keep a lookout. Again, I couldn’t find a permit for either, so maybe I’m a bit premature.

MAYBE something promising is in the works?

Existing location at Holiday Inn on the upper left corner of the map. There is definitely no room to expand at that location as it also frequently ICED.
Possible new location is at an empty lot on the lower right corner. It's situated much more closely to town and businesses that will definitely make a better location.

FINGERS CROSSED!

How crowded is the rest of the parking lot where the EBurg charger is now? For example, behind the Red Lion. I'm thinking that the Holiday Inn may have thought having the supercharger out front was good advertising when it was installed. But it really isn't, and the space they allocated was too prime and too small for what turned out to be the way it was used.

The Fred Meyer in Ellensburg is a bit far from the freeway, and it has a smallish parking lot for a rural Freddy's.

Where 97 crosses I-90 there's a little truck stop sort of area, which includes several restaurants, including fast food, a strip mall with a nice big parking lot, a hotel, and a small casino. Seems like a pretty good candidate.

Noooooooo, the Fred Meyer parking lot is very congested, small, and difficult to get in/out. Sorry @rpo I scouted it out months ago and it would be iced worse than the one at Holiday Inn, which has a completely full parking lot most summer weekends. The only viable locations are new construction at the Canyon Rd exit (Umptanum, S. Opportunity, etc.) or W. University exit (Hampton Inn or nearby). South on Canyon is literally a DUMP ( Day Inn & Waste water plant). This exit also has to contend with railroad tracks on one side.

Ah, thanks for the scouting.

This would be awesome news! The Pioneer Coffee Roasting Company is a fantastic little coffee shop.
I got a bit more info on the Cle Elum rumor. Definitely Pioneer Coffee with construction to probably start in late September. Tesla wanted 20 stalls, but not enough room, so I’m guessing the empty spot just north of Pioneer facing 101 W. 1st. Until we find a permit, it’s probably too early for a separate thread.

The Cle Elum one would be a fantastic addition. It solves the problem of the Ellensburg SC inadequacy. Plus I love when SCs can be located in the downtown area of small towns right off the freeway. These downtowns always have plenty of more authentic dining / shopping / parks that the freeway exit locations often lack. This is also why I like the Aberdeen location.

I also want to express my gratitude for Tesla's proactive approach of adding all these supercharger locations mostly at their own expense. The additions don't directly/immediately have a positive affect on revenue which would cause lesser auto manufacturers to cut corners when financial pressures arise. Tesla is definitely playing the long game here and investing in what is by far the best charging network anywhere. My great hope is that when GM / Ford / etc realize how far behind they are in the charging department they will pay Tesla to allow their cars to use the Tesla supercharger network. But I'm starting to go too far off topic.

Anybody have an update on how busy the Ellensburg supercharger was on Labour day? The Telsa nav said it was full 5/5 when we passed it at about 11:30 am. We had a full charge in Moses Lake and made it to Lynnwood with 30% left.

At about 10:30am on Saturday it was 3/5.

At about 8:30pm on Labor day I believe it was 5/5 from reports of the person I traded spots with.
At about 9:30pm on Labor day it was 5/5 for about 30 seconds. I only got it into park and a space opened up.
At about 10:15pm when I left it was empty 0/5 and I was the last person out.

Ok, well I kinda missed the "late September" date, but hey it's Tesla so maybe it's not really late yet. Definitely some issues still holding up the plans. First it was the snow load on some equipment, and now it's an issue with being in a floodplain (hmmm, maybe Tesla will need to pay for raising all of Cle Elum by one or two feeto_O). Given these nitpicking issues, I'm less confident that anything will happen before winter.:(

Back on topic, I charged ~12pm Wednsday last week in Ellensburg and found all five stalls full, mostly 3's. Again, mid-week and we're seeing full stalls during certain high traffic times. Without expansion or the addition of Cle Elum, Yakima, or George/Moses Lake, this one will be a zoo by next summer. Personally, I'd like expansion of EBurg, but will gladly accept any additions. Once Yakima or Cle Elum come on-line, I'll change my driving habit, skipping EBurg entirely (hint, that's a definite loss of my business if any city officials are reading this).
