Anybody know the longest record for construction of a SC? Fremont #2 just surpassed 325 days...most of the others on www.supercharger.info are averaging about 50 days for construction. One on the east coast is around 110 days, but that is still about one third the time this SC has been under construction.
Anyone care to guess why?
My guess is Tesla knows this site would be instantly overran by locals and is waiting for the paid SC to take effect to try to cut down on the usage a bit... Yeah that's a bit of a stretch considering the thousands of Tesla's out there now with free SC for life...
For the Model 3 reveal, and snake charger reveal, and SuperCharger opening, at the same time.If we're going to throw out some rampant speculation, why not come up with something good? Here's some: This will be a beta test site for next generation SuperCharger cabinets with higher power and automated Snake connection technology.
Okay @Ulmo I'm going to hold you to that prediction. That would be awesome considering I can drive to Fremont in 40 minutes. Fingers crossed...For the Model 3 reveal, and snake charger reveal, and SuperCharger opening, at the same time.
Hahaha; I was responding to @miimura 's request that "If we're going to throw out some rampant speculation", so I did some rampant speculation. This was intentionally rampant, so I will be very surprised if it actually happens. Elon throws great announcement events, and that location isn't anti-party, but it isn't picturesque, either. It has a very warehouse feel to it; that entire block is a bunch of warehouses, and that parking lot abuts a huge busy freeway.Okay @Ulmo I'm going to hold you to that prediction. I don't think we'll be seeing the snake charger anywhere for a while. Now that Elon has hinted at a new level of supercharging that will dwarf 350kW, perhaps they're simply waiting for development to finish before deploying this new technology here first. Perhaps coupled with the automated 'snake' charger?
I don't think we'll be seeing the snake charger anywhere for a while.
Well we should see it in lots of places by the end of the year.
Are you saying this because you expect full self-driving to be ready by then, or in expectation of the Model 3 release? (Or both?)
Neither. I say it because Elon wants to demo the cross-country driving trip by the end of the year.
