Holy cow!

I just saw another thread talking about updates to the supercharger map, and so I went to look for new upcoming sites in North Carolina.

At first, I didn't think there were any... then I saw one listed in Garner for Q42021.

I used to live in Garner in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was a great little town, and more convenient to downtown Raleigh than a lot of places in the Raleigh city limits. However, I never would have guessed it would get a supercharger before places like Boone.

I'm happy for them.

I now live about 3 hours away, in Charlotte, so I can't look for this site easily myself. I also don't know how to do permit searches.

I do know that a lot of superchargers in NC are going in at Sheetz or Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ locations, so I searched for those on the map.

There's not an oblivious Smithfield's that looks convenient for road trips, but there is a Sheetz in a perfect spot near the junction of I-40 and US 70.

I live VERY close to that area. I will try to keep an eye out around White Oak, especially around the Sheetz. It'll have to be a special trip just for you guys since I hardly ever go to gas stations any more :p (Unless they have a Supercharger)

It could be at the Smithfields off Jones Sausage Road and Rt 40. Its a Garner address but outside city limits and in Wake County. I'll swing by there as well. I didn't find any permits yet.

Or the 40/42 Smith fields... also a Garner Address but Johnston County

The hunt continues......

OMG… so I just discovered they are building a supercharger at the Smithfield’s BBQ at Exit 312. I just said last night on the Warsaw Supeecharger post I wanted one there, and voila there it was. I am going back to take photos. The pedestals are already up. Will be posting photos momentarily. BTW, how do I add something to Supercharge.info?
Awesome!! You need to tag one of the supercharge.info moderators @Chuq @MarcoRP

The pin location for this would be about 35.608930, -78.562425

Here are photos and a google maps pin. I created an account on Supercharge.info and requested to be an editor. I’m always on the lookout for new superchargers anywhere I go.

I posted this on the Warsaw thread too, but I talked to the contractors and they’re building the new I-95 Supercharger that was supposed to be in Roanoke Rapids. They said it was in Halifax at the Dunkin Donuts. They also told me that nothing has been put out to bid for Chapel Hill. They did tell me they’re going to be building several new Tesla compatible EVGo chargers in the Triangle at places like Cameron Village, Brier Creek, and in Durham at some nicer shopping centers. They said Electrify America hasn’t put out any new sites for bid in the immediate area. Really nice guys.

Here’s the Google Maps pin for the new installation, and photos are also attached.

Dropped pin

PS: I meant to confirm it’s an 8-charger v3 installation.

WOW!! They aren't the pre-fab ones but it looks like they are going in QUICK! I have a feeling that they are going to be live before Q4 which is the estimated time on the Tesla site. 🥰

Bittersweet for me. I was hoping for White Oak since it is closer to my house :p But that area is pretty crazy especially during the holidays so 40/42 makes more sense. The spot pinned on the map above looks like a nice quiet spot out of the way and a few different food options within walking distance on that side of the road.

This is the location they claimed would be the new “Roanoke Rapids” supercharger, but he said it’s actually in Halifax at this Dunkin’.

Dunkin' · 10401 NC-903, Halifax, NC 27839

If they do put one there, they could also still squeeze one in at Emporia, VA (Highway 58) which is where EA has their charging station. They would be about 25 miles apart. On I-95, that doesn’t seem too close together at all, especially considering 58 also serves as a major east-west highway for people traveling in Southern VA to/from Norfolk-VA Beach.

pro tip: if you turn into the ruby tuesdays parking lot thinking you can connect on the backside into smithfields.............you can't 😂
The easiest way to get into it is to either A. Make u-turn and then turn directly into Smithfield’s and go around to the back of the building on the right side, or B. Turn left and go down to the back of the gas station, then left and cut through between the strip shopping center and Smithfield’s. I’m in that area nearly daily so I am quite familiar with navigating. I usually just make a u-turn.
