Supercharger - Coalinga, CA (LIVE 15 Dec 2022, 80 stalls)

Even in 2013, I used the Salinas Rabobank Roadster charger that had been converted to 70A J1772. I don't think it's there anymore.
Yes, there was an aftermarket CHAdeMO available for the Roadster, but I don't think they got enough interest to do a final production batch.

Moderator note: Moved a discussion of Destination Chargers located at Supercharger sites to a new thread:

Bruce.

Dang, no destination chargers?? If I could drive there, plug into an AC charger while I have dinner I should be able to unplug after dinner and drive home. I'd go there more often if that was an option.
I put that Roadster one in at Harris Ranch. Most of the public Roadster charging stations were put in my Roadster owners.
I've always been surprised (disappointed) that with millions of J-1772 - capable EV owners, nobody has bothered to replace the cable on that one with a J-1772 plug.
In the old days, we Roadster owners just did things ourselves, otherwise they didn't get done. I guess that's the problem with having the government do things - people just expect someone else to handle everything for them.

When it comes to charging infrastructure of any meaningful significance, you have no choice but to engage with the bureaucracy. @nwdiver is doing a decent job of sorting out L2 charging in SE New Mexico, but he has a business doing electrical work and I suspect regulations are a bit more relaxed in smaller more remote communities.

I charged at Harris Ranch (old stalls) on Friday, August 12. Very proud of my old-school, 3.5 year old Model X for making it from Manhattan Beach to Harris Ranch with 27 miles remaining. :) The smell was overwhelming, but the old chargers worked! The new construction looks to be soooooo close to being done! Any day now. Having been a Tesla owner since 2016, I am in awe of the growth on the I-5. Love a good BBQ sandwich from here.

This all depends on the venue for the charger. It was fairly easy for a private company such as Harris Ranch, who owns their own land and has their own facilities department to simply install a 240 volt charger. Being in a remote area helps as well. Convincing them to do so is simply a matter of finding the key decision makers and showing them how it benefits them.
If you're working to put charging at government-owned facilities such as city parking lots, airports, rest areas, etc, you probably will have to get the bureaucracies involved and you can expect the cost to explode as you cut through the red tape and ensure all of the necessary stakeholders get their fair share. I was involved with installing a couple of chargers at a public library once and it was amazing how many people showed up to the planning meetings with their ‘concerns’ that needed to be addressed. There are 3 chargers there now too and, later, a Supercharger came in nearby as well.

Please, you just put a charger in. You make it sound as if you paved I-5.

Nah, I-5 was already there - and paved :)

Ok, I'll come clean:
Actually the Harris Ranch electrician installed the charger. I gave the CFO and GM rides in our Roadster. It took about 3.9 seconds to convince them that this was something they wanted a part of.
I offered to donate the charger to them if they would install it on their property. Actually I donated the charger to Plug-in-America (tax deduction and all that) and they donated it to Harris Ranch.
I needed to drive regularly between LA and Si-Valley so I needed a good place to charge midway. There weren't a lot of other good locations in the area.
They pride themselves on being pioneers so they jumped at the opportunity. They want to make sure their place is open to horses, airplanes (the famous $100 hamburger), gas cars, CNG cars, and, of course, don't want to miss out on electric cars.
JB Strauble (Tesla CTO) and their Marketing Director both showed up at the grand opening, along with about a dozen Roadsters, a lot of (positive) reporters, EV drivers, and ecologically minded folks (uncommon visitors there for sure). From there, I let Tesla work directly with the Ranch and look what grew from that little acorn !!!
The Harris group also introduced Tesla to their other rancher friends at Tejon Ranch and made the Grapevine Grade a piece of cake instead of a climb in terror for EV drivers starting to run low while approaching LA!
It really helped the LA to SF and LA to Sacramento trip in early Roadsters. Spending 3 to 4 hours at Harris Ranch definitely beats spending 6 hours at an RV park.
