I'm thinking that maybe if I create a thread on this location it might make it happen. This is such a crucial location for east/west travel from California to the Southwest. Barstow -> Kingman is fine, but adds close to 100 miles if you're trying to get to PHX/TUC and south. The Premium Malls at Cabazon is alleged to be the site, but nothing.

I just called Premium Malls at Cabazon and they claim they aren't installing any. That the Desert Hills Premium Outlet next door to Morango Casino is installing charging.

A phone call to their customer service and they claim they are opening in APRIL. But couldn't confirm the name Tesla or Supercharger. Just charging.

Actually had Desert Hills quasi-confirmed about a month ago. Didn't realize there were two different Premium Malls in Cabazon. But NEED it by April for my return trip to Napa.

Thanks for starting this thread, it has been long overdue!! I drove slowly through both outlet locations two weeks ago and I could not find any sign of construction. These outlets are right next to each other and would make the perfect place for a supercharger! I also looked around the Hadley's Date Farm area and found nothing. I think your quasi-confirmed location at the Premium Desert Hills Outlets may yet come to fruition. My guess is very near McDonald's. Straight in from Seminole Drive in the back parking lot, so it is an easy walk to McDonald's and/or the Premium Outlets. The chargers at the Casino will probably be level 2 slow chargers to help keep folks inside the casino gambling!! I agree the NEED for one in this location is critical and has been overlooked for a very long time. I was surprised there was not one here when the Quartzsite AZ supercharger came on-line!! ..or at least under construction once Q was finished. I'll post anything I learn/find out about this area supercharger on this post!! Thanks again for starting the thread!!

If the Supercharger ends up at these outlets, Tesla better fix up the navi data for them. When we visited the outlets in late December, it appeared that the navigation system had the exit name and the names of the streets running alongside the freeway leading to the outlets all wrong. I was confused till my wife switched to using Google Maps on the iPhone to navigate.

Its that 3G, makes me crazy ! !! You can whirl around a couple of times before it catches up, if you are heading on an off-ramp this is critical. I,m loving this discussion on the Indio, Palm Desert, Cabazon supercharger. Love to get both on.line.

I have heard both places, Indio, and Cabazon. Both are easily accessible from the freeway. Cabazon has a HUGE brand new indoor parking garage, which would be good for superchargers, because it is often windy there, and 100° about five months a year. Indio is good too, lots to do there, winco store, etc, IF the chargers are covered with a solar panel. Shade is important, I would say. Stay tuned. Also heard service center was going to be in the cathedral city auto center, in the old VW store, so I drove by there, and saw NO signs of life. Also heard a store is planned. Website says service center is in palm desert. Store would be good on el paseo, or in the Westfield mall. Both high traffic areas. Tesla will be doing test drives out here in about a month, so I can possibly get some more info then. 760-617-7666 is my number and I live here and know most of the chargers in case anybody needs some info. FYI......casino MORONGO has two nema 14-50 plugs. See valet for access. Listed on plugshare. I've used them. :)

Just did the drive thru of the Palm Desert Outlets and I did not see any signs of construction of super chargers onsite. The parking garage seems to be the ideal location....if I can convince the wife to stop at Jackson Street I'll post an update. Man gas is expensive in Cali!!!

In for this,

Will be driving to Coachella in April, so would appreciate a way to top up. :)

Carpoolchella from Vegas; yeah!!! I'm going weekend 1. When I first started thinking seriously about doing Coachella this year it looked like the SC would be done by Feb, but no such luck. I probably search some combination of "tesla, supercharger, indio, cabazon" once a week on google hoping for some updates

My 60kWh will probably be drained once I get there, but my hotel is across the street from a charging station and I am using the shuttle anyway, so my problems should be minimal. It would ease my mind a bit to have a Supercharger as a backup plan though.

Maybe we should push that as a PR stunt. "Carpoolchella Indio Supercharger Opening" or something...

I'm driving to Indian Wells next week for the BNP Paribas Open so I asked Tesla about the Indio supercharger and the Palm Desert service center. I was told yesterday that neither will be complete by next week and that they can't give a timeline at this point.

It's really much needed. Currently you can't drive from Los Angeles to Phoenix (which a lot of people do). The distance from L.A. to the first Supercharger in Quartzsite is +250 miles. Even with an 85 kWh battery you would have to crawl at 50 mph to just make it. The speed limit there is 70-75. The opposite direction is even harder as you are facing pretty strong head winds there almost all the time. I wouldn't risk it in an 85 let alone 60.

And with the delay of the Chademo adapter, the need is even greater.

Looks like The Fed is going to be there?! :)

To get some relatively quick juice from 14-50 outlets in the Palm Desert area while you take a break, try this place out:

EV Charging Location - JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort - Palm Desert, CA

I stayed there back during the Christmas holidays and found the charging options very reliable and accessible. There are some okay restaurants on the property and a bit of mini-golf too on real greens if you want to kill some time.
