Supercharger - Irvine, CA - Main Street (LIVE 29 Dec 2020, 24 Urban + 16 V3 stalls)

Good news everyone, I think:

This is an Urban SC, but it is 20 stalls by my count.

Convenient location next to El Torito Grill as well as some new commerical space going in on opposite end of property (probably more restaurants).

Much needed, good to see Irvine/Tustin with so many new stalls

Doesn't look like much movement. Appears to be a paid lot. I only stopped in for ~5 min so didn't get billed. Pics from tonight.

This station is NOT currently live. Just stopped by and chargers are bagged and no longer on the nav. I tried a couple of stalls that had bags removed and they are not energized.

@MarcoRP should this be changed to "construction status?

View attachment 622986 I’m going to go with NOT operational. I and others there were getting fluctuating charges. Anywhere from 10-25 kw. I and others left.

And you get charged $1.50 per 15/mins for the privilege of using the chargers. As if Irvine and Donald Bren weren’t profitable enough already.

Well that's unfortunate to not have a longer grace period or waiver for folks needing to Supercharging. My guess is SuC will largely be used by Tesla owners who work in the vicinity with monthly parking RFID cards and that most people will drive the extra mile to the Park Place location. Once things get back to normal, I suppose this location works fine if you're dining at El Torito Grill or whatever restaurants survive.

LAZ Parking is not exclusive to Irvine; they have properties/business throughout Santa Ana, Los Angeles, and elsewhere...but yes Donald Bren has plenty of money. He's apparently 5X wealthier than the other famous Donald. Growing up in Orange County throughout the 80s, I never thought paid parking (aside from beach) was ever going to be a thing. There use to be plenty of orange groves, empty lots, and even a lion safari...they've pretty much all been developed into homes.

I went to charge here with my Model Y.

No signage indicating parking rates!
No mention of free parking for Tesla Charging

If you don't pay attention that the location is on P1 you'll miss it when you pull into the parking structure and if you think they are located higher, you'll keep going and going like me (because as you know, some places, like Riverside, CA, the superchargers are on the highest level).

On level 5 there are a bunch of (I believe V2) Tesla home chargers that are super slow! (about 16 miles per hour, forget the KW rating)

I made my way back down and found and found the 24 actual super chargers on P1 (near the side where El Torito Grill is).

I charged for 53 minutes and was charged $6 for parking. I pressed the button on the gate and spoke with the security/parking attendant and she said "Yup you have to pay". Which is lame, so I won't be going there again. P.S. What pissed me off more than anything is that PRICING WAS NOT CLEARLY POSTED. AT LEAST BE FAIR AND HONEST!

You mean when you went into the garage there wasn't a big sign somewhere indicating the parking rates? That's surprising. I don't think I've ever seen a pay garage that didn't have something like that when you turn in or get your ticket and enter.

Because there isn't free parking for Tesla charging. When Tesla puts superchargers in pay garages the parking is never free; well, maybe there's 1 or 2 exceptions--I think you can use the supercharger at the Savannah, GA airport without having to pay the garage fees. I think there's also a few where we've seen a lower rate for cars that are only coming to charge up (if I recall correctly, downtown Indianapolis). But almost always you've got to pay full freight to the garage for the parking + also pay Tesla whatever they charge you for the supercharger usage. The thing to look for is whether any of the attached businesses validate parking for customers.
