Just learned of the location of Joplin's 2nd Supercharger, which is supposed to open this quarter. It's going to be at the Kum & Go at 5002 S Main St, one exit west of the original Supercharger, and will have 8 stalls, V3. Also got ahold of a photo of the site plan. Superchargers are in the NE corner of the lot. Will add on Supercharge Info
Oops! Forgot to mention the permit was issued in early December, so be on the lookout for construction
I've already put the word out to old friends in the area. Hopefully they'll be able to stop by and check things out.
Presumably Tesla will close the old location once this is up and running. Its in a gas station, so 24 hour access to coffee, snacks and toilets.
This is welcome, for sure since the renovation of the hotel for the current location never came to fruition. Down side is that this is farther from I-49 for those heading North/South or from the East, but it's only a few miles. The current location also has several more restaurants and things nearby. But I think the truck stop will be sufficient for most needs.
This location is likely under construction. A new(ish) ticket was submitted two weeks ago on 811 CBYD to install a power line for the Supercharger
Ugh. The official S.C. map still doesn't list this location at the K&G but instead shows one opening Q1 2021 3.5 miles to the north. Is it unusual that Tesla lists near pending S.C. locations incorrectly?
You’re new here, eh? The pins for pending sites on the Tesla map are NEVER located where they eventually are installed.. They are located at the center of the city that Tesla is targeting for the new site, which in itself isn’t always accurate. If you're looking at the pending sites with the map zoomed in more detail than showing the whole state of Missouri, you’re using the map wrong.
That used to always be the case but it seems with the latest Supercharger map update last month, Tesla sometimes puts pins in a different location. If you look at the Denver - East, CO or Mountain Village, CO Supercharger pins, you'll notice they don't actually follow the old "centered above city name" rule and might give a better hint as to where the Supercharger will be located. Other Colorado locations (Silverthorne, Lakewood, Monument, Westminster, Alamosa) pins continue to be centered above the city name. With that being said, the new Joplin Supercharger also follows the old "centered above the city name" rule even though it will be located at the Kum & Go at 5002 S Main Street.
Good info. This explains my confusion with the Rochelle, Il. pin at a site that goes against Supercharger location logic.
It looks like construction has begun at the supercharger. I live right around the corner basically, so I’ll provide updates as it progresses.
The dude looks like he's praying over the skid loader. "Lord bless this machine for the work it is about to perform as it will bring forth the electrons to power our chariots."
May be traveling through Joplin area on an upcoming road trip and had to ask... what's the issue with the older/existing site that makes it creepy?
It's located in the parking lot of an abandoned, run down hotel and its pretty secluded. Not too bad during the day but if you pulled up for the first time late at night you'll understand. Not much within walking distance so you cant multitask while charging. The new location will be in a gas station lot so you can make use of your time charging with a bathroom or snack break. Here is a good video:
Read the thread for the existing Supercharger here: Supercharger - Joplin, MO Basically, it is at a hotel that has been abandoned. People have reported the smell of gas leaks, overgrown landscaping, lack of lighting, etc.
Thanks @bwalker5 and @MorrisonHiker Interesting history on this site... seems at one point there was hope of reviving a hotel of some sort here, but apparently over the years the renovation plan was abandoned. And those posts about the nails/screws... will avoid if I can.
Fortunately, the new Joplin location should be open in the next month or so. I'm pretty sure they'll be shutting the old location down once the new location is up and running.
You'd like to think that's the timeline, but from observing other installations ... don't hold your breath.
