Don’t hold me to this, but I think Kettleman City is on a 2,500 kVA grid connection (plus solar and batteries). There won’t be any additional throughput unless they increase the grid connection along with the V3 upgrade.

If you are going on the assumption that everyone arrives at the same time with an empty battery, and they are all the same size pack.

There is just no way that all 40 cars charging would be asking for the peak 250kW charge rate at the same time unless someone went to a lot of trouble to arrange the event.

Did I read somewhere that v3 serves 4 pedestals?

Would be another improvement in service even without a bigger pipe from the utility.

40 cars charging on a 3,750 kVA transformer would be 93.75 kW per vehicle. It would only take 15 cars charging at 250 kW to max out the transformer. As you said, it's unlikely that you'd ever get a group of cars charging at the full rate at any given time.

If Kettleman City is 3,750 like Baker, there is additional headroom available to upgrade some stalls to V3, as the current configuration of 20 V2 cabinets can pull a max of 2,880 kW. If it's only 2,500 kVA, there would be no real benefit to upgrading. This is also ignoring the solar and battery storage, which add capacity on top of the transformer. It's also assuming a power factor of 1.

Time will tell. :)

At this point we can’t be certain what is going on behind those temporary fences. So I am reluctant to update the thread title based on an assumption without facts in evidence. ;)

Perhaps the title could be updated to indicate the fact that some stall are temporarily out of service?

I stopped there on Sunday, and the woman that works in the lounge said that they are converting 16 of the chargers to version 3.

When you are operating a "gas station", the best problem to have is having to expand due to demand issues. Think about it. ;)

Why only 16? Why leave the rest?

Maybe they are just starting with 16. (You don't want to take the whole site down at once.)

V3 Supercharging equipment is also currently in very low supply, so it is probably better to spread what little they have around instead of putting it all in one place.

Also, they probably don't need that much capacity at this site yet.

And San Luis Obispo is under construction again with expansion... which prob won't be ready by then either. To have both major corridors under construction at the same time this close to the holidays.... SMH
