Supercharger - Klamath Falls, OR

I used this plug last May. It is located right behind the Chamber of Commerce building. Access is from the side street just north of the Chamber. Just use the driveway and jockey your car into position so that the cable reaches.

The 80A charger at the casino in McDermott is located near the rear entrance. I used that one too.

I have not done the math, but if you have dual chargers (or 72A capability), I would think that leaving Bend with a range charge would enable a 90-minute stop in Burns and another hour or so in McDermitt in order to reach Winnemucca with an 85 or larger.

We have the answer to the classic philosophical question: is a supercharger really under construction if no TMC member sees it? The answer is YES. Permit data says that an electrical inspection has been completed, so we have confirmation that it is under construction.

Hold the phone.. an electrical inspection has been done and we have no pics?? This can't be. Someone get there STAT and get us some construction photo's!

Just checked, rough electrical meaning they have a bunch of trenches in the ground ..

It's possible there had been trench work done when I went by there, snow was covering everything so it wouldn't have been visible.

I really needed that supercharger on the way back to Shasta though, heavy rain + slush on the ground + 30 mph winds meant I was driving 50 mph on the last leg to get there with 3% soc.

I do wonder what other ice drivers think when they see a tesla going so much below the speed limit. Luckily it was at night so not many cars had to pass me. Also I'm sure the police car in weed was sad not to see me speeding!

Wow, that is cutting it way to close! I can't wait for this charger as well. Making it to Bend without stopping from the Shasta SC is pretty tough due to weather.

50mph.. I'm surprised he didn't pull you over for your impression of the movie "Black Sheep" with Chris Farley and David Spade.... After-all, you were driving through Weed.. ;)

If I remember correctly, most of Hwy 97 has a 55 mph speed limit. Drive it this slowly at your peril. I tried it once to make it to Bend with a head wind. Never got more angry looks. It was a relief when I reached a point where I could safely increase my speed and make my destination. This is a straight, good road and 55 mph is painful.

Yeah, it's painful, but I've seen, many times, the Oregon State Patrol (or whatever they're called) pull whole lines of people over for doing 60. If you get by with it, good for you, and maybe they've changed in the last while. But once bitten, I do 58 mph.

In many sections of hwy 97 the speed limit was raised to 65 earlier this year.

Yes I remember thinking that 55mph limit was ridiculous but it's been about a year and a half since I've been on it.

BTW, I actually want the K-Falls SC to open so I don't have to go to Bend! In decent weather going through K-Falls is the fastest was from Western WA/OR to Reno/Vegas. If that stretch now has a higher speed limit, it will be even faster. But I can't make it from Eugene to Reno easily without this Supercharger (destination charger in Susanville is nice however).

Yeah the speed limit got changed to 65 now, although I almost wish it would be 55 so I could get more range. I wonder with large ev penetration how many people will want to speed in a 70 mph zone in the California side going uphill.

I did consider stopping at the running Y which is about 25 minutes out of the way since their food is pretty decent and they have an 80a destination charger but it was getting late and I figured it would take less time to just drive slower than to charge there.

I made that trip from Reno last June with my Mom in her CRV. Actually we came up 395 all the way from LA and I was scoping all the SpC's along that route. It would be really awesome to get a SpC in Susanville too. Nothing on the 2017 map though. Maybe they'll surprise us!

Apologies if that is too many pics. I stopped in at the worksite this afternoon, took some pics and talked to the two guys working. They were friendly but couldn't answer the obvious questions due to their NDA.

Looked like they were working on the trench behind the bollards (I see 7 in the pic, but I assume there is or will be a drive-in for a total of 8). I didn't see any of the electric wiring including inside the bollards, but I'm not an electrician or anything and I didn't get too nosy as they were busy working so who knows. As you can see one of the above pics is of what appears to be the transformer pad.

The exact location is due north of the Fred Meyer (on the edge of the Fred Meyer parking lot), near the Fred Meyer gas station (just barely northeast of it). If you zoom in, the cone on supercharge.info is mostly accurate, but the actual location is a bit east of where it is placed.

There is not a ton to do in the immediate vicinity, but in towns like K-Falls I guess we will take what we can get! Of course there is shopping and groceries in the Fred Meyer. Otherwise just the Peet's coffee (inside Fred Meyer), a laundromat and apparently a hair salon. There's also a Jiffy Lube across the street :)

I should add that I topped off about 20 extra rated miles at OIT. That appears to be available 24/7 and at 80 amps it is pretty fast. I was getting about 50mph of charge. As it turned out, I didn't need the extra charge with my 90D on my way from Mount Shasta to Bend (I did a range charge at Mount Shasta, but probably didn't even need to do the full range charge). I had fairly good conditions, temps in the 40s with a little drizzle here and there, mostly dry roads. I was going about 10 over the speed limit when possible, had to pass a lot of trucks and other cars.
