A 10 pedestal Supercharger site is under construction in a Publix parking lot at: 3045 Panola Road Lithonia GA 30038 The concrete pedestal bases are in, with large steel tubes poking up. This looks different from SC sites that I've watched before, and I don't know if V3 bases look different (under the cosmetic cover), so I'll just go ahead and run with the speculation that this might be a V3 install, unsupported by evidence I have listed this location on Plugshare: PlugShare - Find Electric Vehicle Charging Locations Near You If visiting to check construction status, please respect the fence lines, stay out of the construction site, and keep construction workers out of any pictures. The Plugshare listing is set to restricted to keep off default map display until actually operational. Please do not remove restricted status. Once this goes operational, Plugshare admins will remove the restricted status and add the Tesla Supercharger plugs to the listing.
And @BlueShift or @Chuq you can go ahead and add this to the supercharge.info map. This might be a 12-pedestal site. It's a little confusing right now. Will be clear in coming weeks, of course.
Hard to believe that the 2ed V3 instal would be here but.......at the same time being the largest Tesla market outside of Calf we don't get the proper amount of SC love we deserve.
You actually have the evidence that's it's NOT V3. Your zoomed in shot of the shipping/inventory tag on the supercharger cabinet is a bit hard to read (blury), but I seem to make out that it is a V2.5 supercharger cabinet like has been recently seen in Henrietta, TX (aka the Wichita Falls supercharger) and some other current build locations. Since none of them have gong live yet, we don't definitively know what power these units will put out but given that they share the same "135 kW" marking as the normal V2 cabinets, it's much safer to assume that it will be the same 150 kW max. IMO, whatever the changes from 2.0 to 2.5 are for, it's probably not related to max charging power. Regardless, it's clear they aren't V3. The V2.5 cabinets also are still set up to support charging on 2 stalls. So, for 6 cabinets on site in the pictures, we can expect 12 charging stalls.
And THAT is why I zoomed in. Thanks for the link! I agree that it looks more like 12, and they just weren't done with the pedestal installs when I was there on Saturday afternoon.
Thanks for letting us know about this. Happy to see another SC installed in the Atlanta area! I am by no means an expert on superchargers, but have been monitoring supercharge.info for over 5 years. Am curious if the pedestals are made of concrete or some form of plastic?
Tesla supercharging pedestals have: - a prefab concrete base at and below ground level - one or more heavy steel tubes rising up out of that base - concrete poured around them - plastic / metal frame and cosmetic panels Read through this thread from about a year ago and look at all the pictures: Supercharger - Atlanta Lenox The concrete bases and steel tubes at this Lithonia location look different from what I saw at Lenox, but that could just be an evolution of the V2 design, not necessarily a sign of V3. In fact at this point we are pretty sure that it's not a V3 install.
This is a HUGE blessing for those of us traveling on I-20 to now avoid having to go to Decatur or (Ugh) uptown Atlanta for charging! This location will save more time than the present alternatives even if it is v-2.5 so thank you, Tesla!
Agree COMPLETELY!! Tesla has a projected site for 2019 at Madison, GA 40 miles east down the interstate but this is fine too. WOnder what will happen to that site.
Does anybody live near this location that could give us updates on the SC installation? I am driving down that way next week and wanted to supercharge there.
It won't be ready for use by then. From the pictures in the opening post, they still needed to pour the concrete for the equipment pad. Place/install the back-end hardware. Back fill the area around the bases of the charging pedestals. Pull the wires. Install the charging pedestals. Wire/connect everything up. Etc, etc. There's lots of work left and multiple inspections by the building department that they have to pass before they even get to the point of having the utility install their electric service. Plus there currently seems to be a national/international shortage on the charging pedestals affecting multiple sites in the US and Canada. So, even if they finish everything else shortly, they're still likely to be held up on completion due to that. I wouldn't expect this location to be operational at least until the second half of July (and that's me being a bit optimistic).
These pictures show the status as of Friday night. As a general rule, budget two months for SC construction, and you won't be disappointed. I have not been paying as close attention lately but 5 to 6 weeks was a typical FAST install, so yeah end of July.
Chris if you took those pics at 9:43am. I stopped by at 2:30pm & took these pics, that show gray flexible conduit in the trench that was empty this morning, per your pics.
Good to see it coming along....will be very helpful for travelers using I20 east of the city so they don't have to go downtown to charge up (or try to make it to the north side). Hitting all the major highways on each side of town would be nice to see as the next expansion locations.
