Supercharger - Maple Grove, MN

Drove by today. Small crew still working. All of the pedestal bases are placed. Charging cabinets were still sitting in the parking lot (in original packaging). Looks like all of the conduit is in place now; they were already re-burying some of it. They were currently doing final positioning and securing of the conduit for the 3 charging cabinets. It looks like they are close to ready to pour cement for the charging cabinet base pads (maybe even a pad for the transformer). Pics attached; sorry a couple of them are slightly out of focus as I was in a hurry and didn’t notice my camera focused on the chain link fencing.

Drove by today to check on the site. Good progress since last time!
The cement pads for the charging cabinets are done and one of the cabinets is actually in place (with a second one just about ready to be placed). 3 of the superchargers are in place.
No progress on the transformer area.
The crew was busy jack hammering the old light post base, so the plan must be to re-position that parking lot light.
I did notice this time that the charging equipment is very close to the edge of the parking lot road, RIGHT on the outside edge of a driving corner of the lot. Someday in the future, on an icy/snowy day, someone is going to around the corner too fast, slide into the curb, bounce up over it, and right into the charging cabinet equipment. :( I assume (and hope) they will install some hefty steel and concrete bollards right there on the corner to protect that expensive equipment!

Status update for Sunday. The crew was actually working today, which was nice; probably trying to catch up to a planned schedule. Not a ton of progress since Tuesday. Some rain this week that you can see on the transformer area photo. They are getting prepped to pour the concrete curbs (that they had ripped out to dig the conduit trenches). No additional charging pylons installed yet. And no additional progress on the charging cabinets.

Status update for this week: All of the charging pylons are in place. All of the charging cabinet equipment is now in place. The crew was busy today; a couple guys were working on the wiring in the charging cabinets; others were pulling wires for the 2 new light posts. A little more dirt, gravel, and curbing is now in place, including where the transformer will go.

As you can see in one of photos, the charging pylons are not perfectly aligned like you see at some superchargers (it always looks so cool when when the pylons are millimeter perfect in a line).

It looks like this supercharger site may be physically done by the end of next week (weather permitting). But, since even Bloomington does not have a transformer yet (construction finished over a month ago, also an Excel Energy area), it could be quite a while before this site goes live. :(

Update for today…
Looks like all of the core construction has completed! All of the charging cabinet equipment was buttoned up and looks ready for service. Not sure about the eventual location of the meter. Looks like a little more landscaping touch-up is still needed.
Still no transformer though. :( (Now I guess we will see if Bloomington or Maple Grove get their transformers first!)
There was a skeleton crew on site cleaning up, and they seemed to be packing up tools, spare equipment, and the temporary large metal storage container.

Update for today:
The electrical box for the (2) power meters is now in place on one of the electrical cabinets. The small electrical box on one of the charging cabinets is now wired up (not sure what this box is for since it is only on one of the charging cabinets; must be control or comms wiring).
The ChargePoint level 2 chargers are now in place. All of the big empty spools for the wiring were still there, but since they are all empty I am assuming that all the wiring has completed now. And, the new light posts are now there, but they were not installed yet. The Bobcat and the dumpsters are still there.
No luck yet on a transformer though. :(

No transformer yet; and no meters. Small crew was on-site installing the new light posts. Some landscaping has been done; gravel down and leveled for transformer, dirt laid down and leveled around chargers. Steel/concrete pylons are now installed in front of the transformer and charging cabinet areas (really important come winter). Not sure why the charging cabinets were open today; I think all of the wiring was already done (maybe power for the new light posts).

Yes, transformer is in! Xcel Energy was on site when I went by today; he was just sitting in his truck, so I am not sure what he was doing today.
No meters installed yet, though. Both light poles are installed, so at least this site will be well lit. All spots are marked no parking, vehicle charging charging only, so that’s good (no 30 minute shared parking here).
Workers were there working on landscaping, power washing the pavement, etc. ChargePoint units were still partially bagged. Dumpster is gone, but storage crate was still here. I assume the site fencing will come down very soon.
Really surprised that MG got a transformer before Bloomington; seems weird.

Funny, I was there about 20 minutes after you and about to post the same picture!
I think (and hope) this is the supercharger meter. The empty meter socket has conduit out from the box, so I assume that meter is for the ChargePoint units, which are still partially wrapped up, but that is just a guess.

I don’t usually get up to Maple Grove but I was nearby today so figured I would check it out. I go right past the Bloomington location a couple times a week but I think there are other TMC peeps in the twin cities that do as well - when it does go live TMC members will know about it pretty quick.

The irony is I seriously doubt I’d ever use any of the metro area superchargers as it’s more convienient and less expensive to charge at home. We’re just keeping other TMC readers up to date.
