Supercharger - National Harbor, MD

I stopped by today. It looks like the conduit is all run. The trenches have been back filled with dirt and the concrete footings are starting to be poured.

As a side note, I went to MGM casino just up the road. They have 36 free ChargePoint parking spots. 2 had plug in vehicles with the cables attached, two spots were empty, and 32 spots were ICEd with vehicles ranging from Ford Fusion Hybrid (non plug in), SUVs, Vans, Porsche, and even a few muscle cars. Interestingly 8 were hanging handicap flags from their mirrors. I talked to security and they have no intention of towing any ICEd car there as it's not breaking a law.

Unfortunately typically behavior for that area

There is a law, it's trespassing on a private property. Of course no business would enforce it against paying customers.

It really begs the question about the supercharger spots, whether and how those would be kept free.

Would have cost a fortune, but surprised they didn't have some underground tram going from National Harbor to the Casino. Might have cut down on traffic and alleviated the parking at the Casino a little bit. They intend to charge a fee at the Casino parking garage at some point. They make 10+ million in parking fees at National Harbor per year, according to people I spoke with at Local Motors.

It's a nightmare trying to plug in at the Casino when they have a concert or event.

...and 32 spots were ICEd...

Hilarious. The one time we went there I was lucky to find a non-ICEd EV spot and had to strettttch the cable to reach my car. So frustrating! (We did win $300 after spending only $5, though!)

Hey! Guess who is visiting the Hah-Bah today?
That's right! Your friendly, no so local anymore power company, Pepco, installing the hookup and the transformer :)
Nothing else is up, no switches, no superchargers, no stalls. Still working on the conduits on the switch/supercharger pad, no concrete poured in yet. There isn't even trenching to the stalls locations, but they did take down the lamp post that was in the way.

I have a feeling this will become more of a zip car style Tesla supercharger location in the future. The Model 3 rfid card has the same capability as zip car does. Unplug the car you want, drive around, bring it back to a charger and plug in. Tesla ride hailing program references infers this is a real possibility. Elon Musk has been saying for some time that he expects car ownership to shrink with full autonomy. Or time sharing your model 3 and make money. It would make sense at the National Harbor, since there are many international visitors who rent a car.

Devil is in the details. I think someday we will hear complaints from owners who can’t make money with their “ride share” Tesla, unless they get up early enough to find a charger spot. Or travelers complaining that ride sharing model 3’s hog all the spots.

In the lazy days of summer there is not much visible progress to report. Trenching for the stalls appears to have started with the massive lamp post foundation out. The conduit work at the pad is finally done with filler in place. The beginnings of a retaining wall are in place. The supercharging equipment has been moved out of the way to the other side.

Still in the weeds, drive slowly indeed!

Speaking of weeds...

Ok, that last one is not from the Harbor, but can you really tell? o_O

Every time I stop by the sun is cranked to 11, it is bitching hot, and I have to sneak around and wait to take the photos when people are not looking.

Anyways, Pepco and Co. are back to work on the switches/interconnect, the equipment got shuffled around with what remains from the stall boxes covered in giant plastic, the supercharger pad is finally poured in, but there is no visible progress on the trenching for the stalls.
