How/where are people queuing up while waiting? Is there an implicit order maintained?
It appears so..luckily.

The car on the far right has three teslas waiting behind it and all 4 bays full.

Also. I decided to investigate the construction going on.....While it is fenced/drapped off..here is a pix:

So...I got excited....Turns out it is to be a stand alone Starbucks......I will try to get in touch with the general manager of the facility next week to see if it might have some more SCs..but doubt it.

This spot has had me a little worried about wait times the last few times I've passed through. 2 out of the last 3 times I stopped here I was the 4th Model S in, and both of those times there were others waiting soon after. (The other time was at ~3AM and I was the only Model S)

So they definitely need more spots here.

In my experience people are generally very courteous when a line forms. I haven't had any problems with someone sneaking in ahead of me, for example.

Regarding the Starbucks, perhaps the one inside will close and be replaced with something else. But then again, this is Starbucks we're talking about...

Starbucks density must be the highest or close to it in Seattle. One of the hotels I frequent is 5 blocks from the office, and I pass 7 Starbucks.

Here's what I was thinking:

My crude drawing above shows 9 new spaces, but the area is probably big enough for another 10-12, and almost certainly big enough for an additional 8. (Don't let DE hire me to paint their new parking space lines!) The biggest advantage, I think, is that the wide truck corridor in the lower left 1/4 of the image is easily accessible for both northbound and southbound travelers. Sectioning off the new spaces would likely prevent a truck from blocking most or all of them. Adding the spaces directly to the truck corridor (my 2nd image below) would disrupt less green space, but would make it more likely that a truck would pull over into them and block most or all of them.

The obvious alternatives (discussed upthread) would be to expand the existing 4 spaces to the southwest (taking up some of the green space where I put my "4 plugs" text) or to the northeast (not in the image, where the almost-never-respected "hybrid only" spaces are), but I think that presents a much higher risk of ICEing since the spaces are substantially closer to the entrance, and it doesn't improve ease of access for northbound travelers.

P.S. For what it's worth, there's some kind of major construction going on in the main parking lot (between the food court and gas station) right now.

Your lines don't conform to the current DE standard. They lack ambiguity.

I wonder if rather than expanding this Supercharger, it would make sense to construct a new one somewhere nearby. For example, Chesapeake House Rest Area in Maryland is only about 20 miles farther down I-95 and is a pretty similar place. This would provide more options for travelers, and presumably relieve congestion at Newark at the same time.

Basically between DC and Southern NJ more SC capacity is needed. If they wish to add them there I have no problem with that. I would point out Newark, DE is at the junction of Route 1 and I95. In addition close to the bifurcation of I95 and Delaware Memorial Twin span/NJturnpike. Ideally located.

2 bays were full when I arrived today. When I was about to leave, one tesla waiting, so I pulled out and waited for my wife in truck parking (since I had enough charge by then to get home). Then as I was waiting, another tesla pulled up and one of the other cars charging unplugs and pulls out after seeing the new waiting tesla.

Nice to see charging courtesy flourish on I-95

Chesapeake House and Maryland House were both recently redone. Unfortunately, as far as I know there's still no EV charging capability there.

Yes, that plus it's a logical halfway point between DC and NJ/NYC. I agree that more locations would provide travelers with more flexibility; I have skipped Newark a few times in favor of Hamilton when heading to/from central NJ. On this most recent trip that wasn't an option because my destination charging prospects in Wildwood were uncertain at best and quite inconvenient at worst. (Fortunately it's all working out just fine -- Imperial 500 Motel | Wildwood Crest, NJ | Electric Car Charging Station | PlugShare)

There has been talk of an additional location between DC & Baltimore and one near Atlantic City (Egg Harbor). To add coverage for I-95 / reduce congestion in Newark while supporting as many other directions of travel as possible, it would be great to also see superchargers in King of Prussia / Plymouth Meeting PA (to cover 76/276/476/30/202/422), Bellmawr NJ (to cover 76/295/42/55), and perhaps just north/west of Baltimore as well (to cover 70/83).

But even with several more locations surrounding Newark, I'd still like to see Tesla expand Newark.

+1 to everything paulkva said. I'm heading up to AC this weekend (ugh) and not looking forward to delays in Newark or the PITA destination charging in AC.

Would be nice to get some MD/ Southern NJ chargers online.

A dot has been on the Tesla planned Supercharger map for 2014 and is still there for 2015. A site in Jessup, MD was considered in 2014 according to a business owner who said he was approached by Tesla.. That didn't work out for some reason. Then there were plans to put eight stalls at Savage Mill near the Rt. 32 exit. Those plans died early in the zoning process. Then there was talk that the Superchargers would be built at the Towne Centre at Laurel. But that is now off the table from what I understand. Securing a Supercharger location between DC and Baltimore has evidently been very challenging..

Not sure where in AC you're heading, but there is a relatively new parking garage right at the end of the AC expressway that has something like six 30A chargepoint stations that I used almost every time I was down that way when I was in NJ last year. It's been ~8 months since the last time I've been there, but it's only a few blocks from the boardwalk and casinos and such.

The South Hill, VA SC has 8 stalls and is in the middle of nowhere compared to Newark,DE.

South Hill has 6 stalls. It is a perfect location, literally seconds from the interstate. I use South Hill on every trip I make to/from NJ now.

I've seen four Model S there once.

Thanks--yes, that's the garage I use. You're right, it's pretty nice (other than the weird "no overnight parking" signs which I routinely ignore). Unfortunately my inlaws' condo is down the beach a ways, so while the garage is pretty convenient for downtown AC, it's kind of a PITA for me. Even more annoying--the condo put in a charger but won't let guests use it. But these are all my personal laments.

I was really hoping to see an Egg Harbor charger go live this season, but I'll just cross my fingers that they light it up for 2016.

Two shopping 'centers' at intersection of Rt 175 and Rt 108 just 1/4 mile off I95 - great location.

Oh, right, six stalls. I've only been there twice -- on my way to/from.. Hickory, NC! I guess in my mind's eye, I remembered 8 stalls. Great restaurant there too, Kahills.

I didn't realize before you were in Hickory. On my way out of town, I stopped at the Chademo charger at the Nissan dealership there, but it overheated only after 15 minutes, so I didn't have enough charge to get to Burlington, NC, so I have to detour down to Charlotte to charge, and then to Burlington.

All full. No line, yet...

What's Teslas email? (Supercharger@Teslamotors or supercharging? Supercharge?)

I'm going to send them photos each time I'm here.

If you want to email the supercharger team, go ahead, but I promise you they have telemetry and metrics that tell them exactly how often the SC is full.
