I wonder why things like this take so long. Did anyone attend the meeting? Minutes from the meeting indicate a decision was tabled until March 12th. Does that mean that the public hearing component is complete? Other items in the minutes indicate Public Hearing to continue. Excerpt from the Meeting Minutes: 2. Site Development Plan/Special Exception Modification Application to permit the proposed Tesla Motors, Inc. Electric Vehicle Charging Station installation at 90 Halls Road, Black & Veacth on behalf of Tesla Motors, Inc., applicant. Decision tabled to the March 12, 2018 Regular Meeting at 7:30 p.m.
In the beginning of the minutes there was a 5-0 vote in favor of closing the public hearing on the charging station. I imagine they will vote it through at the next meeting in March.
Three of us attended the meeting as owners. Two Tesla reps. There was no vote on the proposal. Up to Tesla to make the next move re: what the Town wants before going forward.
Great to hear there was representation from both the Company and owners. Can you provide a little more insight into your comment. Is the town looking for something specific from Tesla - other than patronage from us at the local establishments as we charge our vehicles?
Did anyone attend Monday's meeting? The agenda is published but the meeting minutes were not. Looks like a decision may not be final until 4/18/18. 2. Site Development Plan/Special Exception Modification Application to permit the proposed Tesla Motors, Inc. Electric Vehicle Charging Station installation at 90 Halls Road, Black & Veacth on behalf of Tesla Motors, Inc., applicant. [Public Hearing closed 2/12/18 - Decision to be made within 65 days of closing 4/18/18]
Looks like the minutes were posted. It says a decision will be made at the next regular meeting on April 9th.
Well, that sucks. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Zoning Commission has rendered the following decision on the applications heard at the Regular Meeting held on Monday, April 9, 2018. The decision is filed in the office of the Town Clerk, Old Lyme Town Hall. Site Development Plan/Special Exception Modification Application to permit the proposed Tesla Motors, Inc. Electric Vehicle Charging Station installation at 90 Halls Road, Black and Veacth on behalf of Tesla Motors, Inc., applicant.- DENIED.
Stated that their regulations didn't allow for it. Public comment sessions were closed at a prior meeting.
Disappointing. Perhaps Old Saybrook will be more receptive. There is a Big Y grocery store just off the highway with 2 Level 2 charging stations. Maybe a good location for Superchargers now.
Let's not rule out this site. What we see here is typical for Connecticut. The zoning board can only approve what is in their regulations. If the regulations do not allow what Tesla is asking for, the next step is to take this matter to the zoning board of appeals. That board has the authority to grant a variance to allow this project to go forward. Don't know Tesla's actual plans, but my guess is that is where this is going next. Keep fingers crossed..
