The following is pure speculation -- but could explain this situation. The zone regs were written a long time ago. Typically they cover property 'uses', setbacks, building height, and other matters. The installation of an electric vehicle charging station was not something that existed when the zoning regulations were approved by the town. It is not uncommon for an application of a use that is not specifically allowed in the regulations to be rejected. There is a remedy to this and that either drafting new regulations that cover that use or to request a variance from the zoning board of appeals. Remember guys, Tesla is breaking ground in a completely new, different world....
Sucks, but Old Lyme isn't great geographically any way. Hopefully New London comes up in discussion.

Actually it's better because you don't go through new London to get to Mohegan sun and Foxwoods when coming from the south

Milford to Mohegan sun is 63 miles. Round trip thats 126. A model 3 SR at 220 miles max would have to charge to 65% in Milford and hope its not cold out or that there isn't any traffic to make it back to milford with 10% charge.

Supposedly CT DOT has been threatening to install Chademo/CCS stations at the other I-95 rest areas for a while. Plugshare shows 5 HPWC's and 2 (16A) J1772's at Mohegan Sun, and 4 J1772's at Foxwoods. Gain electrons while you loose money!
According to the supercharger map, New London is suppose to get some urban chargers at some point.
What map are you referring to? The Tesla map isn't a reliable guide as to the actual location - and definitely doesn't indicate urban chargers vs normal chargers.
I guess I'm assuming it will be an urban charger because New London is a city and it showed up on the tesla map after they announced urban chargers with the opening of the Boston one.
I don't think Tesla would consider New London to be a city. I was actually suprised with Hartford, I expected them to only show up in Boston, NYC, and other major cities.
Interestingly the Old Lyme superchargers might not be dead. There was an ethics commission meeting where they decided to hire a lawyer and come to a resolution with Tesla because they are afraid Tesla would sue. They said the zoning commission has no opposition to the chargers, it was denied because there were no regulations in place for chargers. Tesla even offered sample zoning language they can use.

Bit of a late reply but there are EV chargers at Foxwoods and Mohegan. In fact Mohegan has Tesla destination chargers so even the smallest battery model 3 should be safe from Milford and back.
Electrify America is installing fast chargers at Waterford Commons right now also. I would imagine it will be quite a few DCFCs.
I wouldn't say its safe to say that. We don't know what is going on outside of zoning commission meetings and they only meet once a month. It seems they have a more pressing issue right now with some housing application.
