Interesting... Didn't notice this until today in the Tesla supercharger map website as coming soon. I guess this would be one of those new city superchargers they are rolling out.
Remember the pin is on the name, the hardware could be anywhere when it gets sited, since that covers a lot of area! Having said that, you would assume it's one of the new Urban Superchargers (but perhaps not, if it's on/off 579...) Looking again, it could be anywhere... on/near any of the highways, perhaps...
This was reported on the supercharge.info forum today: "Looks like a new urban supercharger is in place in Pittsburgh, PA! @ Giant Eagle Market District in Shadyside. It was reported that 8 urban stalls were installed but not active yet. I’ll report once it’s active." Is anyone able to check and provide photos? (Are locals happy with this thread being used for this new site?)
I did some reconnaissance myself this morning (as shared w/ supercharge.info already) full album -> Urban Supercharger - Shadyside Market District
Well, ICEing definitely won't be a problem here. Note: it seems there are actually 7 stalls instead of 8. Photos from PlugShare
This is desperately needed in Pittsburgh. It's asinine you have to drive 20-30 minutes outside of the city for a SC.
Maybe as I always thought SuperChargers were for road trips. For local travel one has convenient home charging. With a 250 mile battery there should be be a need to charge within 125 miles of home.
Some of us visit cities and need to charge up while we are in town for a few days. Often there is only street parking available when staying with friends. Also, some people choose to have an EV even if they don't have home charging. Not nearly as convenient for sure, but good for them for making the switch.
Superchargers for urban areas are different from and in addition to Superchargers along long-distance routes. Per Tesla: Superchargers in Urban Areas Tesla is installing Superchargers in urban areas where city dwellers and out of town visitors can easily charge. These stations are placed at convenient locations like grocery stores, downtown districts, and shopping centers so charging fits seamlessly into your life. Supercharger | Tesla
Good location. Looking forward to using this SC when open on an upcoming trip to attend a Pirates game.
Install looks pretty much complete, seems like just waiting on power. Not sure if it’ll come from the transformer already there or if something else will be added.
Excited to see this coming online for Pittsburgh soon. Work/life has me splitting my time living in both Indianapolis and the Burgh and it’s wild to me that Indy has 5 sc options but a city the size of Pittsburgh you have to drive 20+ minutes outside of town to find one.
No change, except that one of the covers fell off. Photo from @TeslaPittsburgh on Twitter and PlugShare
