Thank you Ray and WhiteStar. I get the caravan park as there is an owner or agent on site to talk to but what is the procedure at a showground, surly you don't just drive up and plug in (besides are not those switch boards padlocked) ?

Thank you WhiteStar. I've followed your link and purchased the UMC Adaptor. I've also sent an email to the Sydney Tesla Charging Specialist Mr Baxter in an effort to purchase a Euro 5-pin tail, that may not be so easy but fingers crossed.

Some show grounds; yes, you just rock up. For Coffs, talk to the admin people on-site or phone 02 6652 8401.

Yes, Mitchell Baxter will sell you one of those for $130 ++. The other bits can be ordered at http://www.uniquip.net.au/shop/cordline-socket-16a-5-pin-400v-ip67-cee-form-iec-309 for one end and http://www.uniquip.net.au/shop/plug-straight-32amp-5-pin-round-500v-ip66 for the other. Then you need a bit of 5 core wire and someone who is confident to hook it up.

Construction underway!

Ahhh music to my ears.... I take it all back....

How the hell do you know these things anyway??

p.s. I see no reference on the web to a Raymond Terrace SC. Where did that info come from? Can you please post a link?

Tesla Australia website shows planned locations of 2016 Superchargers.

Approx: Raymond Terrace, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Brisbane.

What is the typical spacing of those Superchargers?

The typical new spacing in the U.S. is 160-200 km. Except for routes with extreme elevation changes, that spacing allows fast speeds and fast charging, even in bad weather (temperature, wind, and precipitation).

That's about what they are here too, so far. No extreme elevation changes on any of the enabled or proposed routes though.

Really really pleased. Hope they stick to it.

Now if they could only switch on Summon... Oh hang on... Wrong thread...

I’ll raise a glass of Cassegrain Reserve to that!

Funny you should mention Summon…in 2 years Elon says there’ll be Summon from distant locations across the country. Can you imagine the hurdles on that in Oz if they apparently still won’t let us Summon from the garage?

I really love how this is starting to take shape... Tesla is true to its word in building this supercharger network up the east coast of Australia.

Personally, I sincerely think that building the supercharger network up and down the east coast of Australia is one of the best things that Tesla can possibly do for Australia (not to mention car sales of Teslas in Australia). They are so essential for long distance travel. They open it up and make the journey fun (not to mention free). I must say that the technology is extraordinary too. It's funny to think that pretty much the entire battery can be charged up in as little as 45 minutes when it could take up to 24-48 hours at 10amps (Who charges at 10 amps I hear you say? Well if you are staying at a destination on your holiday that only has a 10amp power point in the garage... then us!)

ColinA,
Can you put these photos in context of location? Maybe a Google maps satellite pic showing where this is from the highway etc.
And a very big thankyou from all of us for the updates :)

I cant take credit for the photos, they are provided to me by someone who requests anonymity!
I have run up this quick map though which might help provide context. It's a brilliant location!

It's a really nice short drive (2mins) from the Pacific Highway in to Cassegrain Wines. When you drive through the entrance one goes past a nice tree lined road. Take a look around as this was designed and I believe planted by John Cassegrain's wife many moons ago.

The only concern I have with this location - purely from looking at the map - is that there isn't anything else apart from the winery in walkable distance. The ones in Goulburn etc. are near the town centre with a range of different cafes, restaurants, etc. to choose from. It seems more suitable to a destination charger, with a SC being in the Port Macquarie town itself. However, I don't know a lot about the area myself, and I have no doubt that Tesla weighed up the pros and cons of all locations before making a decision!
