Supercharger - Redding, CA (LIVE 11 Oct 2022, 8 V3 stalls)

My money is still in and around the Target. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much food options right around other than In & Out that I would visit. It would seem Tesla should start planning for vehicles towing in this area with the truck coming and even the folks towing with the X (Raven model seems to make that even more possible), so hopefully they are considering ingress and egress issues.
If not Target, somewhere in range of 44 & I5.
I'll do my check-in to Redding and see if anything has changed permit-wise.

Your assumption seems like it might be a potential site. If I remember from my days in Redding 35 years ago, the egress and ingress between I-5 and 44 is kinda messed up, and Dana Dr. is accessed from Hilltop, and not SR44, I think.

When the engineers designed Interstate 5 through Redding 60 years ago, there were only three exits, and none of them appear all the suitable for a Supercharger. Cypress Ave. is always a mess in the summers.

I am just wondering if Tesla may opt for Bonnyview Road south of town or even Anderson with a much larger variety of places to eat that much more easily accessed off I-5.

Looks like a great location, plus google maps says there’s a charge point a the northern side of Target. Many places have co-located different stations. There are several other nearby possibilities as Tesla has existing SCs at various hotels, Black Bear and Cattlemen’s Restaurants. Ultimately, this site will be V3, and might be heavily used (220 mi to SF). At the
E. Cypress exit there’s a huge empty parking lot near Dress For Less! though less desirable. It might be a good place for a Tesla lounge/service center. If I was the mall owner, I’d bend over backwards to get a 20 stall V3 solar lounge on the property.

Seems like a reasonable location. Charge Point has something nearby and stations are often co-located. Other options include the Cypess exit. How about a 20-stall V3 Tesla lounge near the Dress For Less? That parking lot is underutilized, though not the best choice for restaurants. I’m still a fan of being near Starbucks. There also seems to be some new development on Churn Creek Road at the S.Bonnyview exit.

The Ross parking lot near Black Bear on Cypress would be a nightmare unless it was gated. That parking lot/area is full of transients and break ins occur a lot, I imagine it would only get worse with 20 Tesla’s sitting there. I think the Target is the best bet followed by the outlets in Anderson. There is a lot of construction on bonnyview Road, that could work as well.

My feeling is that the area off of Bonnyview is catching Tesla's eye. There is construction on the NE side happening now with a shopping center and Panda Express. Costco is trying to put into the NW side, but that is still jumping through hurdles. There is also talk of a hotel casino on the SW side. The problem is that Tesla can't wait long enough for those projects on the west side to gain traction. My money is the NE side near Panda Express which is being built out now.

When I get there in August, where is the best place to juice up my Model 3??
Am in the same spot as you. I will be going through the area on my way to Lassen on Sunday. Shame that this is not open yet. But hey, first world problems amirite?
So I will range charge to 100% at the Concord Supercharger and I should be ok to explore Lassen over three nights from Manzanita Campground. A quick check of evtripplanner shows that I will use up most of my range (with the total of 27k feet of elevation changes) before I get back to Concord (or Chico) on Wednesday. But I should be ok, if my wife does not get too range anxious...
Good thing I got the long range Model 3! My old S 70 would not have been able to make this trip comfortably.

Chico is always super empty, and the drive up 32 is very nice, I prefer 32 over 36, but I do drive it pretty regularly. Caltrans has done a great job the last few years improving the road. It might add a bit of time going that route, but you should stop for lunch or dinner at the Highlands in Child's Meadows on the way or on the way back.. Beautiful stopping point. And if you do go, ask them where the hell are the Tesla Destination Chargers they were supposed to install 2 years ago that they got from Tesla :)

You gave me an idea, so I checked destination charging:

So maybe a top up here could work, if they will allow it (for a fee).

Anyways, Redding Supercharger would be good to have for sure. And better would be something closer to the park entrance, but that is for another thread.

I camped there once with my trailer and they let me use their Tesla charger. They told me it never got any use, and they had to move some stuff out of the way so I could get close enough! I have no idea if they will let you use it if you are not paying for a campsite. Suggest you call and ask, and make a note of the person you talk to. Let us know what you find out.

The KOA in Shingletown will definitely let non-guests top up, for $20 (mighe be $25 now). 80A charger!

The Best Western Plus on Hilltop Dr in Redding is where I juiced up. 2 Tesla Destination Wall Connectors. I spoke with the Security dude and he said no problem even if not staying at the hotel.
20ft directly across the parking lot they have two Sun Country chargers that he said we're off limits.

We stayed there before going to Lassen/Shasta. Perfect to juice up overnight
