Supercharger - Reno, NV - Sierra St.

Yup, both the in-car map and in-app "nearby superchargers" list have been showing this supercharger as temporarily closed, but at least the app does show if someone is using the supercharger.

I tried stopping by the Reno service center, and nobody was at the front with multiple notices taped to the door including:
  • We are temporarily closed in accordance with the County's shelter-in-place guidance.
  • Tesla will continue to manufacture, service, and deliver vehicles and energy products throughout the Bay Area.
  • In order to ensure the maximum safety of our customers and employees, Tesla has implemented Touchless Home Deliveries.
  • Members of the public are not to attend this facility if they are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, including fever or a cough; and adhere to communicable disease control recommendations by the CDC.
  • As defined by the "Shelter in Place" directive issued by the State of Nevada, auto service repair locations are deemed "essential" business operations and, as such, the Tesla Reno Service Center will remain open.
So service is open 8am M-F, but they're closing 1 hour earlier at 5pm.

They were preparing some Model Ys for delivery with a white one on a carrier waiting to unload and a midnight silver one heading out to a home delivery.

Could someone confirm if the supercharger at the Eldorado Resort Casino Reno at 375 N Sierra St in Reno, NV is open? Going to be passing thru there tmw. I know that casinos have suspended operations in Nevada, but does that mean the superchargers on site are not accessible? Please advise if anyone knows on this one and any others in NV. Thanks!

If the lot isn't open for some reason, the supercharger at Atlantis should be no problem. It's an open lot with no gate.

I haven't been downtown since the shutdown of the casinos but it seems like I read up tread that they have an alternate entrance to access the superchargers without going thru the closed parking garage. If I go anywhere close to there, I'll swing by and check it out.

Nice surprise charging here a few days ago. In my late 2016 MX, I have NEVER gotten more than about 115 KW charging at superchargers anywhere. So the other day, I plugged in with 25% charge remaining and saw it immediately jump to 160 KW. That was nice. Of course it only stayed at that rate for about 15 minutes and then dropped to 90 KW, but then again, it was 95 degrees outside. It stayed at 90 KW for the remainder of my charge up to 80%. Not sure if this is due to a recent firmware update or what. I have been at that SC about 5 times in the past and never seemed to get more than 80 KW no matter what state of charge I already had on the battery or outside temperature.

I was at this location 40 minutes ago (just before midnight on a Friday), and a couple of security guards came up and told me that because of their "no loitering" policy, I wasn't allowed to sit in my car while charging. I could go wait in the casino if I wanted. Um. I told them I'd be leaving, exchanged eyerolls with the guy charging next to me, and left to charge up the rest of the way in Truckee.

I wonder if that's actually the policy - and if Tesla is OK with it - or if those two guards were just confused. Either way, I'll avoid this location in the future.

Probably the casino industry method of drumming up business!

Huh. We were there yesterday, "loitering" in our car eating lunch. No one cared.

Good to know.... planning to be there soon, and was hoping to do the casino while charging and after - but will go elsewhere. Thing is... there are several options fairly close (charging and casinos) and along my route. Not the only choice - they should be told. But I understand if it's their policy ... they are probably used to taking chances with more possible business.

Is this the V3 supercharger from the tesla site? Every time I plot for a trip from San Fran to Salt Lake, it NEVER routes me through this SC.. I would have thought that it would try and optimize overall travel time and get me to use a V3 on this route rather than the smaller SC along the way.

The other Reno supercharger is also a much bigger diversion off of I-80. I would definitely override the Nav on that one.

We ended up charging here on the outbound but not the return. The OB run was fine, the parking garage is just open to get to the SC’s. There were about 8 Teslas there at the time, half of them had their owners sitting in the them. We stayed for 10 and had some lunch we brought, then walked to the Starbucks about 2 blocks way, which turned out to be in a Casino - which also provided an easy access much needed bathroom and picked up a coffee on the way out. It always amazes me how many people are in casinos at 10 am in morning. All WERE wearing masks, but still I had two masks and goggles and gloves on while in the casino and couldn’t wait to get out.

I charged here yesterday and the gates to the garage are wide open to enter and to leave so no charges whatsoever. The speeds were good (200 kW starting at 26%) and definitely no one will care if you hang around and eat there by your car or leave the car and walk around (although the neighborhood is kind of a ghost town right now and perhaps even before COVID).

We avoided this SC eastbound on a recent 3500 mi road trip since it seemed like it was going to be a traffic jam downtown (passing through around 5 pm), and I thought there was going to be a charge to enter the parking garage. As others said, no charge, $$$ that is, to get into the SCs. We had a really good experience with quick charging, lots of available stalls, and LOTS of amenities nearby. The Los Gallos taqueria about 1.5 blocks away NW was excellent for lunch. I just wish Tesla would either built solar-panel shading for hot places like this, or the lot owner would plant some trees, as we travel with dogs and it was pretty exposed to the point that ceramic window tint + dog mode wasn't as effective as it should be...
